I rarely eat a pudding, but booze and coffee, yes please.
A pal and I recently went for dinner as the men were at Welford Road.
We developed a taste for espresso martinis.
Oh my goodness. Thanks for the reminder. I love an espresso martini!

Oh my indeed

Yes, absolutely, PP, LTC! Definitely worth braving the West End for, once I've had my booster ...
There are some lovely Nigel Slater recipes in the supplement as well - we're doing a version of the fig and goat's cheese toastie for lunch. We'll probably melt the cheese in the oven - I'm sure it'll be a good sub for a grill.

I make something similar, except I do not use chickpeas.Pepper Pig wrote:Nigel’s Roast Chicken pilau.

Re: Foodies In The News
That's not really what I'd call a pilau, I'd have though it quite important to cook the rice with the onions and some of the fat or oil so the flavours mingle
And I'm not sure about the chickpeas either
This is the basic method I'd expect for a pilau whether or not adding additional ingredients at the end

Re: Foodies In The News
Mine is similar to yours Sue, years and years ago we had the best pilau rice ever at the Milan in Birmingham. They still make it the same way - cloves, cinnamon stick, green cardamoms, bay leaves and cumin seeds, all fried in butter, oil or ghee, then a cup of well rinsed and drained rice and 2 cups of cold water, to the boil, 10 mins with the lid on, 2 mins after to rest. Sometime I do onions with it, and sometimes I fry them separately and stir them through at the end. We eat a lot of rice in this house. Topped myself up with a 20kg sack of Tilda Basmati recently. I love the smell every time you open the bag.

Re: Foodies In The News
The maximal, clumsily hacked Nusr-Et special salad had the cloying quality of something finished with chopped Starmix
Nice
Think I'd rather go almost next door to Hawksmoor, where a burger costs £17.50 not £100 and £65 gets you a very decent bottle of wine, not house plonk (that's £31, and not actually plonk)

We can recycle ours as long as there's no bit sticking to them, they're flattened and turned inside out. Presumably so it's clear they're not contaminated. We're encouraged to tear off any claggy bits and pop them in the food waste bin, ditto used napkins, kitchen roll and any other paper that's got food waste on it.

Is she going to review it as well? I think Jay Rayner said his editor would not foot the bill. Please post a link whoever spots it. Thanks for all the fun reviews everyone.

Re: Foodies In The News
My local council has told us not to recycle pizza boxes at all, even if there's nothing sticking to them.
I think a big problem with recycling is that each council decides on what it will/will not recycle, so even if something is made to be be recycled, a council may not deal with it and then the whole load could be rejected. I sometimes get mail that's in recyclable plastic - but our council won't take it so it has to go in the landfill bin.
