I’m a real pudding girl but I’ve never been fussed about tiramisu . I’ve always found it a bit of a boozy coffeeish mess.

boozy coffeeish
I rarely eat a pudding, but booze and coffee, yes please.
A pal and I recently went for dinner as the men were at Welford Road.
We developed a taste for espresso martinis.

The wine bar I used to frequent did a lovely tiramisu, one of the few things that is coffee flavoured, as opposed to pure coffee I can stand, the booze helps
Turkish shops sell proper savoiardi biscuits and I think Polish ones do, so check the world foods aisle if the biscuits look unpromising

Any pud with coffee and booze is a hit with me. Tiramisu without booze is a disappointment. I must say though that it varys greatly but when it's good it's very, very good. I think, as mentioned in the article, that the quality of the sponge/biscuit matters quite a lot.

Somewhere in London they make a tiramisu gateau thing, you tend to get a slice of it if you order tiramisu in a pizza and pasta place, yuk

Today's bar snacks. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/s ... perly-posh
It's a long time ago but I do remember the landlady in our local pub when I was a teenager used to have a plate of croutons (she probably didn't call them that then) coated with celery salt out on the bar. She reckoned they made people buy more drink.
Nusr-Et, Salt Bae's restuarant. (A link you may or may not be able to open - I could and I'm not a DT subscriber). There has been much about this on Twitter. I'm waiting for Jay Rayner to put the boot in.

I've seen a couple of (uncomplimentary) reports on Salt Bae's London place. Not sure how long it will last!

This Observer supplement was missing from our paper on Sunday, and I was wondering what was in it! Now it's online there are a couple of things we're thinking of trying, the halloumi pie and the soy and ginger roasties

Here's an article about it in the fully accessible Daily Mail - which includes an image of the till receipt, which is well worth an if you haven't seen it
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food ... urant.html
Including the £100 burger, the £9 Diet Cokes, and the £9 per standard measure vodka (Grey Goose, good but not exactly exotic)
At least the cay (Turkish tea) was complimentary - worked out at around £300 per head, with service but without any fancy wine

Yes, agreed, the halloumi pie does look good.
Also, we made the "sauce" for the soy and ginger roasties yesterday and actually had it on baked tuna steaks and it was extremely good. Definitely one to be repeated

Another vote for the halloumi pie here.
Looks great and J will enjoy it as long as I refer to "cheese" and not "halloumi"

WW my nephew maintained for years he didn't like feta but would happily eat "Greek cheese" as my sister called it.
There's a few recipes recipes in that link I fancy trying.
I thought the roasties "sauce" would be good over chicken thighs.

My OH disliked cheese, he said so often
Actually he disliked cheddar/ Cheshire / Gruyere /Comté types, Camembert (raw) and blue veined cows milk cheeses, all other s were fine in cooking
