I made the scrambled egg shakshouka from ‘Falastin’ for breakfast. We both really enjoyed it, made a nice change to our usual recipe.

RockyBVI, first congrats to OH
Handy tip: There's a video of a chef making fried onion rings who uses chopsticks to batter the rings and place in the oil, wiping them clean each time. Much easier than cleaning instantly gunked up batter/oil fork prongs or tongs. (Unless you meant raw onion rings - I'm not a fry everything freak, honest.)
Can you get home deliveries now? A lot of retailers here have started them and those who did already have upped their game due to demand.
smitch, I was thinking of shakshuka this morning, but Bloody Mary won. Egg salad due later instead.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
We had a rare proper night out tonight with two of our best friend couples. We ate at Australasia in Manchester which serves great pan Asian food. The nigiri and robata grill items were the best. Bento boxes of desserts also lovely.
Lots of champagne and cocktails for our friends 40th.
Probably breakfast out tomorrow somewhere to make the most of no children. I might even buy a newspaper as I’ll have a chance to actually read it. Small pleasures

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Last night I had bought tortellini with a simple tomato sauce made from very concentrated homegrown passata and three types of (!) basil. With Parmesan.
Toinght: cheese and spinach quesadillas: fresh spinach, fresh thyme, feta, coastal cheddar, and egg, salt and black pepper, a good pinch of chipotle chilli flakes.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I'm home alone for a few nights so I winged it a bit with dinner tonight.
It was very loosely based on a recipe from my tapas book.
Basically, gently fried chopped red onion and tomato with a spoonful of harissa.
It was stirred through puy lentils but I didn't have enough so there was a bit of rice as well.
Seasoned with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice.
Could have handled a bit of smoked garlic.
Drat.
Just remembered I forgot to sprinkle with parsley.
Served with a green salad, I enjoyed it.

Finally got round to the fat celeriac oven chips with runny duck egg.
The chips caramelized slightly. V nice.

Unimaginative tomato, pepper, thyme, cannelini beans and weird pretend meat that needed eating up thing, with cheese.
I have a *lot* of homegrown orange and yellow peppers to eat up still. I picked a load because tiny snails were eating their way in the eating them from the insides to out. Not sure what to do with them all. I have about 10, I think.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Still home alone so I cooked some bacon and broad beans earlier.
Currently enjoying a g&t as it's my day off tomorrow.
Will shortly cook some pasta and stir the bacon and beans through with some red onion and parmesan.
A glass of red might be required.

I had planned to do somethig more like that, Sue, but I did rare thing of letting the mixture over cook, whiel talking to husband about work in another room, and it went a bit mushy.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I think on Sunday we had chicen and veggie noodles - but can't remember really
On Monday we had homemade pesto - I had it with stacks of roasted veggies and OH had pasta too.
Yesterday we were due to have omlettes but OH didn't fancy making them so I got some chicken and chorizo stew out of the freezer which we had with wild rice.
So tonight is omlettes - bacon, mushroom, onion and feta I think.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Tonight I did a version of this potato, chilli & tomato salad.
I used smoked garlic granules and fresh chillies as I had no pickled ones.
It tasted good but the mayo curdled so it didn't look very appetising.

Tonight we had a delicious peppers and lentils dish along the lines of the peppers and lentils in this Nigel Slater collection: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/j ... st-recipes
Lovely!! Will definitely do it again.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I was suddenly hungry at 8.30pm, so since I´d already cooked some canneli beans, I made myself some soup. More or less a Tuscan Bean Soup, but I forgot to put a chunk of bacon into it. Tasted good all the same!
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Talking of which KK,
Thame daughter visited last week, bringing a lot of home grown tomatoes.
Cooked them down with chopped onion adding dried oregano and cannelloni beans. Added green beans, a sort of combination of two greek dishes we remember well.
Original plan was to have a jacket with prawns, so this is the final dish for me, OH had the jacket.

Wednesday fish van - we thought dressed crab for lunch, but he had a small lobster, which went well with ciabatta rolls from the Co-op plus salad.
Bought plaice for tea. Used roasted lobster shells etc, added a mire poix of whatever was in the fridge to make a pretty good lobster sauce. Seems a long time since I've done off-the-cuff stuff.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Today I made a rather lovely thing. I've no idea what to call it. It was a beany, veggy, spicy stew thing. (I'm not very good at names!) Because I'm so limited on spices I can eat, it had sumac, cumin, fennel and caraway and fresh tumeric, ginger and garlic. Half the veg was homegrown (as most of our meals are now!) plus some roasted mini potatoes (also homegrown - so good). yum. best part - leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I might make some gluten-free flatbread to go with it. It was so nice to have something with flavour for a change!
