Re: Non food related TV
I discovered Professor T on ITVX and am enjoying that (even though it's a detective thing
)

Re: Non food related TV
Herbi, the original Belgian Professor T was really good, we thought much better than the English version. It was on C4/ More 4. I don't know if it's still on 4 catch up.herbidacious wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 11:56 am I discovered Professor T on ITVX and am enjoying that (even though it's a detective thing)

I really like Ben Miller... but not sure his character in this is a million miles away from his Death in Paradise one.
Will look out for the original.

Thanks to Pepper Pig for the heads- up on The One That Got Away - best thing I've seen in ages! Thoroughly recommended.

I'm enjoying that too.
Anyone else seen the new production of Bergerac ?
Can't help seeing the ghost of John Nettles while watching it,but more gritty than the original.
Bergerac's rich in-law Charlie is played by Zoe Wanamaker.
Unlike Herbi I really enjoy most detective series if theyre not too gory.:
Unforgotten
The Bay
And will catch up with 'Get Millie Black' and ' Virdee'

I’ve set it to record Bergerac … haven’t watched it yet.
Re: Non food related TV
for those with a smart tv you can get the new bergerac on the 'u' catchup channel (i've just found that we have that ability) so we will binge sometime.

Also available via a Virgin app
Re: Non food related TV
I only watched the first episode of Get Millie Black. It looked as if it was quite good, but I couldn't understand what many of the characters were saying.PatsyMFagan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 10:36 am

Virdee is quite gory - it might be too much for you, Patsy.

One of them reckons Matlock gets going again on Tuesday but I’ve yet to confirm that.

Just finished Towards Zero - BBC one off Agatha Christie, firmly set in 1936. Good, very much in period, slightly surprised by the 24 hour dance spot, though I think that’s in the book, Matthew Rhys excellent as shell-shocked DI
They are rather stacking up though, might try The One that got away but have been

Re: Non food related TV
N.B all these things are thrillers or detective things?! (Including the ones I have mentioned.) Does this reflect our tastes or are these all that are on terrestrial tv, almost when it comes to drama?
Patsy I don't dislike detective things (unless they are too violent and tense). I just like more variety than that in my tv drama diet.
What I really don't want to watch are things that put me on edge. I have had too much genuine stress in my life over the last few years to want to inflict more on myself. But I do like unpredictable plot twists which a really good detective story should provide. (But so can other genres with mysterious elements.)

Detective and thriller TV series are my preferred viewing, as well as reading, genres - not sure what that says about me. I will watch other drama series, but can't think of much recently that has interested me.herbidacious wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 5:33 pm N.B all these things are thrillers or detective things?! Most of it's not on terrestrial TV, but streamed, mainly via C4.

Re: Non food related TV
Sometimes I think I'd like something that wasn't a detective/thriller/spy thing, but most other drama seems either to be a soap or at least a bit soapy and that's not my thing. The BBC even lists Drama & Soaps as one category on its web pages
I have recorded both Miss Austen & Mr Leverman, should try them
Apart for that it's comedy or current affairs. Perhaps I should catch up on more movies

I can't remember if I've enthused about Astrid? I think it's terrific and the actor who plays her, Sara Mortensen, is amazing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrid_et_Rapha%C3%ABlle).
We tried the English version, Patience, but were underwhelmed and didn't stick with it.

Re: Non food related TV
I watched Miss Austen. Enjoyable but not riveting.
There's not a lot that I have loved on terrestrial tv in recent years. Jonathan Strange, the first series of Gentleman Jack... can't think of anything else.
At the moment I have the luxury of three things that I am enjoying watching! A rarity. All streamed but two ex-terrestrial.
I went through a phase of reading detective books a long time ago. My father loved them.

Astrid looks good but subtitled, Patience had rubbish reviews so I didn’t bother
