Re: BT/EE
I think it's sorted. He speculated that the fact that I have not yet sent back the disc meant that the order was open hence sending a reminder... even though they have the new contract on the system. Still not a prepaid envelope to send the disc back, though.

They should have, but it didn't turn up so I ordered another. Hopefully it will come this week. They were right on my back, and an envelope arrived, within days of cancelling my mother's broadband after she died.

Re: BT/EE
I did.... then BT and EE joined forces, or whatever the technical term is. A year ago I left EE when I started with Utility Warehouse. I don't recall having to pay any penaltyKeenCook wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:51 pm Hello, just wondering if anyone has moved broadband/internet from BT to EE and how that was.
If you had a bt email address, were you able to keep it?
I also believe that all the "legacy" telephone connections are being phased out by the end of the year, so if you know anything about this, please share

Still no returns envelope so rang them up. They say that the disc is marked as returned so no need to do anything... and I can keep it as a spare.
Great but a bit odd. I imagine the last person I spoke to found a way to do it and did it as a favour. (Possibly what Orange did too.)
T is supposed to be tackling Orange. I hope he does... work is bad again. I offered to do it but was worried they might refuse to speak to me as it's all in his name. (They don't allow people to have accounts in joint names. Many UK utilities don't either anymore, so it's not purely a French default to men thing, although I think that's its origins, remembering when we set up all these accounts back in 2007.)

Re: BT/EE
Yep. We sorted out the Orange mystery. Basically they had left a load of voice messages which T had not bothered to pick up. (Probably wouldn't have understood them anyway.) Upshot is that they say they did some preparatory work outside to enable connection and that it should all work now... so do we give it another go.
T thinks he may have told them to alter out account status so that it's not down as cancelled. We need to decide whether to give them one last chance, and if so does he go over or do we pay someone to be there (can't ask neighbour yet again)? Either way another phone call is needed.

Re: BT/EE
Oh dear...
Orange. So... we are giving them one last chance. We got through to a very competent person who set it all up for us (and suggested that the reason it wasn't working was because they had been going to our neighbour's house... The address is complicated. We only just got a proper one with a road name and house number, and that wasn't on their system.) But because our account had been cancelled she had to set it up again and in order to do this, the router had to be sent back and a new one sent out. (Sound familiar?!? BT I am looking at you.) But we are not there to send the original one back so she said, don't worry, keep that one and the new one will just get returned when there is no one there to receive it and they will mark that as the returned one. No 100 euro fine to pay.
Now we had a chap there today chopping up the tree that fell down in the storm, for us. And guess what. The post man came with the new router, and the chap accepted it on our behalf. AGGGGGGGHHHHH!
I think we are going to have to ring them again, and explain this all... which doesn't entirely make sense now I write about it.
Maybe we can ask our neighbour to send it back, but have asked so much of her already. Or the chap who accepted it. What a massive PITA.

We will laugh at some point, maybe. It's been really stressful.
Anyway our man Ed says he can return it for us. (Will need to find out how.) Just hope it all works out.
We were told at least that we have not been paying for the service all this time as T thought we had. We will also get two months' free if we ever get it up and running.

Re: BT/EE
I doubt they will bother. They are not highly motivated. Also, there is the issue that orange is the man in the middle. We don’t get to talk to the engineers directly. I’m not sure that they could be trusted to pass on the right information. I’m also not entirely convinced that this was the problem though. It’s strange we have had so many different excuses/explanations. We have also been told that they have done engineering work on the outside of the house to facilitate installation, so have they done it to the wrong house?! But then it was denied that they had done any such thing so who knows? It sometimes feels like those train announcements where they tell you why the train is late by pressing a button and one gets the impression that sometimes it’s a random button and the explanation isn’t remotely linked to reality.
And how were we able to get the router delivered to the right address? It wasn’t the normal postman but a delivery company. It’s all a mystery. But not an interesting one.
I know it’s different, but I tried to have something delivered to my neighbour who lived on the main road and have their name on a postbox visible without even getting out of your car or van. Because they didn’t have a street name or number it took a month for a certain delivery company to deliver the parcel. In the meantime, I had sent them pictures of maps, coordinates, all sorts but clearly they were not prepared to do anything other than look at their satnav.

I think it was DHL.
I have a great Evri person. Usually the same one. We chat and she asks how I am and calls me ‘babes’!
(I would not be happy with this from anyone else but her!)

Our Evri delivery folk are good too. We used to have just the one chap all the time and he was lovely. Now it’s usually one of three … but they’re all perfectly pleasant and efficient. No complaints about Evri from here
