Where have you eaten out today?
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We have been driving around the continent for over 50 years, so things may well have changed recently, that is, in the last 20 years or so. It’s also possible that vegetarian dishes we all that were available to the peasant class in olden times, as meat was only eaten when they had any.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We had a posh lunch in Restaurante del Parador de Granada. (I did not feel appropriately dressed.)
We were given bread, olive oil and olives then some salmorejo (had to pick off the jam on garnish ) to start.
Then I had Ajoblanco de almendra marcona con pan de higos. The soup was theatrically poured over the figs.
Then goats cheese pasta in a very oniony tomato sauce.
Too full for dessert plus feeling a bit unwell alas. I recovered a bit later thankfully.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We have had two nights near Leipzig. The Parkhotel Brandis is a nice quiet hotel. It’s nowhere near upmarket, but the rooms are large. It’s very clean and the food is well cooked. I have had a pork steak in different forms on both nights, and it’s very tender meat. The clientele seems to be mainly people working away from home. There are quite a few white vans in the car park, and dressing for dinner is usually a clean tee shirt and jeans. I think that the best clue to the hotel is that evening meals are only available from Monday to Thursday.
I would be happy to return.
We also had a snack lunch of pumpkin soup at the Schlosswächter Cafe outside the gate to Colditz castle. The Germans have finally woken up to the fact that the place is rather well known all around the world, but it was not realised by the Germans. There is now a tour guided by iPads or similar, as well as an optional English speaking guide. It was the same guide that showed us around 12 years ago. She is retiring this year. The tour involves a lot of stairs, really rather a lot of stairs.

We ate out in Bath last night at Circus and can thoroughly recommend. SiL, niece and I shared the Brie croquettes for start. Then I had the duck starter and a side of greens. Delicious. The fish special (which OH had) was sea bass with a crayfish and lovage veloute. Really lovely. https://thecircusrestaurant.co.uk/

That looks good Rocky - I love the way good Irish menus always specify the origin fo the ingrediencts
Must track down some Gubbeen cheese, love it (eta a quick Google suggests best chance is Neal's Yard, which is easy enough)

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We had lunch in a new(ish) Italian deli/cafe in West Dulwich. Really good quality. It's in an old bank that has not managed to keep the various eateries that have opened since the bank changed purpose. I hope this ones stays.
I had gnocchi in tomato sauce with cheese. Quite a small portion (5-6 inch shallow gratin dish - one layer of gnocchi) but good for lunch. It left room for dessert, which was tiramisu... this was HUGE. I was stuffed. No dinner for me.
T had Uova al Purgatorio, I think mainly because of the name He also ordered foccacia (freshly made each day, they said) with a very fruity olive oil, which I had a bit of.
They had some nice deli things to buy, including fresh cheeses, but I was too stuffed to contemplate buying food. It made for a very cheap Waitrose shop afterwards. (But was really only returning something. This would not normally have stopped me...)

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We are back in Northumberland for a few days
Monday was takeaway pizza and chips.
We went for curry last night
https://www.tajamble.com/
We have been to the Taj before and it didn't disappoint this time.
Sabzi bhuna for me and home style lamb for J, with one portion of rice and a bread.
We couldn't move afterwards.
Saving myself for the Fish Shack tonight.

A delicious parsnip and cauliflower crumble at Cafe Kick, Exmouth Market, with 'good' tomatoes and rocket on the side.
(Back in the office, really delicious chocolate cake made for someone's birthday.)

There were 25 of us at The Hansom Cab in Earls Court Road. We had pre-ordered from a choice of Cottage Pie, Beef Curry and a vegan lasagne. With an apple crumble or cheesecake to follow. All very tasty and plenty of it. Ideal for a casual meet up with old colleagues.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We didn't make it to the Fish Shack, 40 - 50 mph winds and lashing rain made us move the reservation to the Boat House.
Same company and half a mile nearer, we were on foot.
3 fabulous Lindisfarne oysters were my starter, J had cullen skink.
His main was a whole roasted (rather small) plaice with heritage potatoes and greens.
I ordered langoustine from the specials board, expecting maybe 5 with chips and bread.
I got 20.
Apparently they were landed locally yesterday and only one other person had ordered them, and they needed using.
I was happy to help, obvs.
J had to help me but they were truly delicious.

Green with envy … especially the oysters … but they don’t like me any more.
I could’ve had extra langoustine instead of the oysters

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We were pootling around in Suffolk and time was getting on and we were both hungry … we found a cafè but at 2:33 we’re told they stopped serving lunches at 2:30 … so we headed up the A12 for The Fox at Darsham who serve food all day … we were very glad we did … a lovely cosy pub, lots of rooms, the best fish pie we’ve had in years g I’ve not cooked myself, accompanied by perfectly roasted carrots and tenderstem broccoli al denté.
We shall return

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We are staying in Chateau de Cocove. Here are some things we ate. (3 course set meal with other bits and bobs).
Main was a stir fry, not shown here. We also had apéritives - assorted things in tiny dishes with garnish.
The mille feuille looking thing was made of very thin aubergine slices rather than pastry. Sorry, photos a bit out of focus.

It’s rare for us to eat well in France. I am increasingly thinking that hotel restaurants are the way to go.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Last night we went to Pizza Express in Herne Hill.
Lunch today was here:
https://kumquat.restaurant/
We shared miso caramel glazed aubergie, and 2 bau buns with tofu and mushroom. Very tasty and not a huge amount of food, so later on had cake and coffee here:
https://rubysoflondon.com/ (but not in London )
It's vegan so cappuccino with oat milk, which didn't taste very different from the dairy version. I had coffee cake.
Won't be having dinner (and had no breakfast).

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
I really like oat milk in coffee.
I haven't tried it in tea but my vegan SIL is happy with it.
I enjoy it in porridge too.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We had a nice meal at The Leopard in Bishops Tachbrook. Recently refurbished and a touch more upmarket than it was. I had a chicken and leek pie with cabbage and mash. It was a proper pie pastry all over and under.
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
The aubergine looks like a meal in itself!
