I seem to have messed up the quote, but it referred to Herbis first post, with the intricate pastry (?) work.
Very impressive.

We ate out at an entirely different sort of venue last night, a Cypriot Wedding! :D It was a classic Cypriot buffet, I had salad plus dips, good tzatziki, excellent Pasticheo made in the traditional flat tray, some well spiced Kofte, plus rice and a couple of small roast potatoes.
Chicken in three different ways was available plus the inevitable souvla.
It was a predictable menu, but well cooked and presented.

I think it was a cheese tuile. Made locally he said, on the day so very fresh.

Nice weekend food Herbi!

We had a group dinner at The Strickland Arms, Sizergh near Kendal again
http://thestricklandarms.com/

It's a lovely pub, the service is friendly the food is hit and miss
I had Onion Bhaji topped with raita sauce, spicy & sour cherry tomatoes (GF)…….
There was no raita, at least there was no yogurt of any kind, and for some reason is came crammed in a sugar bowl, so it was a soggy mess, but the "bhajis" were poor too start with, great lumps of onion on a minimal amount of batter so the onion was half raw.

Then I had Pan Fried Coley with gnocchi, tenderstem and a cherry tomato and nduja sauce it was just about OK, the sauce wads more of a chilli tomato sauce and I've preferred the broccoli not cut small and mixed in - I didn't really detect the 'nduja beyond the chilli

Last year I had Lamb hotpot, which was also a bit disappointing, but pie of the day (though lacking in the extra gravy) and burgers were said to be decent, fish and chips, OK

Rest of the weekend's food was great featuring the famous warm pork pies from Higginson's of Grange over Sands

Yesterday I went out for a very long lunch with the ladies I normally do afternoon tea with, so it made a nice change and no-one had to bake. Yippee!

This is where we ate. We ordered a sharing platter and a couple of plates of the dates stuffed with blue cheese wrapped in bacon. Then we each ordered two plates and had little tastes of each others choices. It was all delicious but I felt some of the other dishes were a little unadventurous.
I would never have ordered the dates but they were an absolute showstopper and could have eaten quite a few more.

It was J's birthday yesterday so 4 of us had dinner at the Friar Gate branch.
Tiny restaurant with smiley service and good food. I would be happy to go again.

A wander around Holt, Norfolk this morning and then lunch at Jack's.

https://www.jacksatwoodlakes.co.uk/

It's one of our favourites. Good food, lovely setting and first class staff.

I had sticky pork belly - their crispy chips are to die for - and better half had sticky chicken. We both had Strawbeery and white chocolate cheesecake for pud. Their cheesecake is the best you can get and flavour changes daily - all made in house.

I have pics but no idea how to make them smaller and put them online. Sorry.

Looks lovely, Norfolkman. We don't usually venture that far west - but might!

Never had a bad meal there. Not open Mondays or Tuesdays except if it's a Bank Holiday.

And most school hols they do free meals for kids.

On Wednesday I finally got my wish to eat a Fat Rascal at Betty's (Harrogate). I'm pretty sure I will never grace a Betty's again, I'm really not a Betty's person, just the once was enough.

Very busy?

We had a meal at Yak and Yeti in Crystal Palace on Friday. It's Nepalese/Tibetan/Indian. Not our first choice, but it was nice enough.
Lunch in the Mayflower Rotherhithe today. Lovely pub. Food a bit lacklustre.

I prefer curd tarts to fat rascals. Make of that what you will, but we’ve discussed before the veracity of Betty’s claim to have invented the latter.

I love Yorkshire Curd tarts. I rarely get the opportunity to have one. I gave up on ordering from Betty's as they were just utterly hopeless (and expensive).
I am not a Fat Rascals fan either. Too dry.

Bettys curd tarts are nothing to write home about………..but Thomas’s are in a league of their own (small independent bakery chain based in North Yorkshire).

In my opinion a fat rascal needs (and tbf is served) with lashings of butter. I actually think that they are not at their best when fresh and are better eaten a day or two later.

I used to love Bettys but fear they really are not as good as they used to be. They seem to have lost all their more mature wait staff who had been there for years and hence the service has declined.

Still wouldn’t say no if someone brought me a box of cakes and fancies though………..fancies, seems like such an old fashioned word.

I was quite disappointed with Betty's in Harrogate. It felt like a conveyor belt lacking in tea shop ambience. Very nice cakes though When I rented a cottage in York with a friend, the owner had left us Fat Rascals and butter. She said she'd made them herself. They were delicious. I wonder?!
