Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We have just returned from Glasgow, where I fulfilled an ambition to try Ka Pao, which Sue reviewed positively a while back.
There were four of us so we had the sharing menu, which is 12 dishes plus rice. It was all good, most of it very good indeed.

ETA - I have just checked when Sue went, and have realised that Pat went to the Edinburgh branch shortly afterwards, with another enthusiastic review of the sharing menu.

T took me out to the local Pizza Express last night. I had a fig and blue cheese white pizza with balsamic syrup drizzle, which was rather nice. Enjoyed all the more for not having eaten much during the day.

We had lunch here today.
Bavette sandwich for J, fishfinger sandwich for me.
Both were massive and good.
Shouldn't need much else today.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
My daughter had that tonight in York. She said it was very good, with teeny, tiny figs. I like the hole in the middle pizzas but they’ve changed the menu and sadly no prawn ones are available. But there’s no way I could ever eat a whole pizza. The chilli/garlic prawn starter wasn’t very impressive. But the mini desserts (stem ginger cake/chocolate brownie/lotus cheesecake) with coffee were very, very good .herbidacious wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 8:58 am T took me out to the local Pizza Express last night. We’re booked in to our local one for Christmas Eve. Silly hats/jumpers are compulsory!!

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Nor did I eat it all, even though I'd had nothing all day, but I don't eat much usually, at all. If you are talking about the quantity of food, rather than too much pizza in one go I think it was probably less food than a standard Sunday roast in a pub which I can never get through (without the meat). It was an 9 (?) inch pizza - not one of those huge ones. Not being able to get through a whole pizza should not be a reason not to have one when eating out, I think. (You can take what you don't eat home. They are geared up for that.)
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Went to Pizza Express on Friday night specifically for that pizza. Topping was great, pizza base was awful, very chewy and I didn't even bother with the crusts! Good job it was 50% off or I'd have been seriously miffed.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Which type of base?! I suppose you might have had a duff one.
The one we went to last week (there are two not so far away) is really hit and miss with service, so seeing that they only had one server, we made the mistake of going to Zizzi down the road for a pizza the week before. They must have dipped a spoon in the tomato sauce and smeared what was on the back of it over the base. Stingy cheese allowance. It was rubbish. Dry and negligible flavour. I only ate half of it (that much because I was really hungry). I like a moist, gooey pizza...
I only ever eat crusts if I do because I feel I ought to... But OH is often happy to help out.
I don't like really chewy things... or indeed sharp crusts. The roof of my mouth is very sensitive and they hurt. (This is why i am not so keen on crusty bread either.)

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We had the Romano base, supposedly thin & crispy. Both bases were thin and chewy.
I was astonished at how expensive it was if you were paying full price. Perhaps we just don't eat at these sort of places generally so lose touch with the cost.
There's a decent independent pizza place the other side of town, probably similar in price but much better quality.
For pizza lovers who ever find themselves in Shrewsbury, there's a tatty looking pizza takeaway across the road from the train station called Al Piccolino, absolutely superb pizza.

We are staying in Worcester for a couple of nights. Last night we ate at Pasta di Piazza and had a lovely meal.
https://www.pastadipiazzaworcester.co.uk/about/
We shared a (large) portion of calamari to start with then OH had Penne con Salami Piccanti and I ate Penne con Gamberetti e Funghi. I particularly enjoyed the addition of green peppercorns to my dish. They gave a lift to the creamy sauce.
Not sure where we will be eating tonight.

WE met friends here today. It's a convenient eaterie between us and them in Heswall.

I had a mixed antipasti from the main menu, which I really enjoyed (and brought a doggy bag back!).
They all had 3 dishes from the daytime one.
Somehow, they never hit the mark for me, except with their Cacao e pepe, which wasn't on the menu today. Usually a little bland - Dave commented that his were too bland, too. If you're going to describe something as 'a fiery Tuscan stew', you need to add the 'fire'.
In future, I'll stick to the salad bits.
However, it was very busy, so perhaps my expectations are wrong!

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
I remember that three-veg terrine very well, and fondly, Herbi. I vaguely looked into making one myself, but I never really got round to it. Now you mention veg terrines, I remember making one from one of the Paradiso books a few times. I remember it being absolutely delicious but, as is often the case with their recipes, quite complex and long-winded.herbidacious wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 12:17 pm
One of the vegetarian ones has a recipe for a three coloured vegetable terrine that they used to sell ready made in Sainsburys in the deli. (Remember Sainsbury's delis?!? Maybe some still have them. Not ours...) It was rather nice.
I must look it up!
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
My goodness, I used to make those years ago in my past life, and I wasn't even vegetarian then! If I remember correctly, I used to put a layer of green beans in between the vegetable layers, to make it look more festive.
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Ah, just checked Denis Cotter's recipe, carrot, almond and feta.

Goodness yes! Had completely forgotten vegetable terrains.
Sloe, I love that menu - a shame it may not be as good as it looks.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
KC I did make the terrine once. I didn't really want a whole one though A slice of two would have been enough.
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
We had lunch at the local Brasserie Blanc with friends - OH had a 25% off a la carte mailing list email and as we were 4 we also got a free bottle of house white. Our friends don't drink at all, OH had a glass, I had a thimbleful and we brought it home with us. It's actually very decent, only 11% which is our preferred strength anyway, so good all round.
Three of us had beetroot terrine with horseradish sorbet, one had crab bon bons - all delicious.
Then, I had hake, OH had the burger, friends had venison, rib eye pork and a side of hispi cabbage - all excellent, although I have a feeling that MC Professional judges might have criticised the fish for being a little over cooked - it wasn't really "solidly" flaky, but then maybe that's how hake is. I really don't know
Very good meal and a wonderful catch up with friends. Our lovely waiter also gave us the 50% off vouchers for January, which we'll get on email nearer the time.

We had lunch here today.
Thank you Moira for the recommendation.
J had rabbit stifado, a stew with potato and lots of onions, flavoured with black peppercorns and a couple of cloves.
I had oven baked fish.
The closest description I can do is that it's a layered dish.
The base is rather like a potato boulangere, with chopped celery and onion. I think there was a splash of vinegar too.
On top of that was a layer of spinach, then a fish fillet and topped with carrot puree.
Not sure what the fish was, maybe plaice.
Both dishes were fabulous, and very generous portions.
We finished with Cypriot coffee and a (complimentary) piece of coconut cake.
The coffee was super strong and the cake was very sweet so they needed each other, if you see what I mean.

We ate here on Saturday. J had the steak and ale pie whilst I had the dirty burger followed by apple and walnut crumble. We both really enjoyed our meals.

Per Tutti, Berkhamsted.
https://pertutti.co.uk/a-la-carte-menu/
Mocktails first. Passion fruit something and Peach something. I had Gamborini Piccanti to start - it was enormous. Then Pollo Saltimbocca which was also filling and just as good. Finished with Torta Limone which wasn’t quite lemony enough for me but nevertheless very good. BF had Minestrone and the Calves Liver. We shared rosemary potatoes and more green beans. With a tip because the ambience and service were so good it came to £100.
