If you meant the thing we had, it was a very small dish. Starter sized. It wasn't a particularly cheap place.

I use oat milk in my morning smoothie but still use cow's for tea. My friend with MS now uses oat milk instead of cow's which means I now have that in my tea when I'm at hers. I have adapted quite well I thinkWWordsworth wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 7:52 pm I really like oat milk in coffee.
I haven't tried it in tea but my vegan SIL is happy with it.
I enjoy it in porridge too.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
I had a delicious Stilton tart with a bean salad and dressed leafy salad at The Clerkenwell Kitchen for lunch today.
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
That sounds lovely, herbi. We're being taken to lunch here today for my cousin's 60th ... https://www.sallyclarke.com/restaurant/
OH is feeling pretty off - he's had a perpetual cold and sore throat for ages that has now turned into a cough - but he doesn't want to miss it. It is one of our favourite places but not one we go to very often. The last time we were there, yonks ago, we saw Lucien Freud. Apparently it was his regular lunch spot.
I'm really looking forward to it!

I hope it was nice, KC (and that your OH feels better soon).
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Thanks Herbi, he was fine, although headed for his bed as soon as we got home!
I just posted this on the chat thread:
Lunch was great, I forgot to take any pics, but it was really delicious. The waiters were a strange mix between almost over attentive and inattentive!
They had to be reminded to give us a second helping of their very good bread and forgot to refill our water until I reminded them - but those are tiny gripes and certainly didn't spoil the meal. 60 yr old (1st once removed) cousin and her 93 yr old mother (1st cousin) were both on good form. I think that £38 for the lunch menu of such a high standard is very reasonable. The beetroot and hazelnut salad starter was great, the chicken in the main course was butter soft and tasty, dessert was a lovely chez panisse inspired poached pair and Breton type cake - I can't remember the name of those round moulds that have a dip in the middle for filling with deliciousness, served with a light gingery cream.
Yum!!!

Sounds lovely KC
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Lunch yesterday was a fabulous pizza and a pint of Adnams Ghost Ship here
https://www.kneadpubs.co.uk/the-tobie-norris/
We come here as often as we can … the best pizzas known to mankind outside Italy
We chose our own toppings … I had artichoke and anchovies … OH had sun blush tomatoes and mozzarella … on the smaller size of pizza with a wafer-thin crust so light that it’s quite possible to eat a whole one. Not at all ‘bready’.

Nice sounding pizzas Suffs. We have returned from the Pear Tree Inn at Whitley, I had 3 cheese macaroni for starter. and Stone Sea Bass with prawns in a lovely sauce with new(small) pots with chives, blackberry creme brûlée with lemon shortbread. OH had fish goujons with curry mayo, ale battered cod, skinny chips and pea puree. He helped me out with my brûlée. A good evening all round. I had half an hour in ASDA in the RTC sections and got some real bargains, 4 brioche buns for 10p ! Asparagus for 90p.
An extra hours sleep tonight, I think I need it. Night all...

I met up with some people from choir who went to Sweden today at the Rose & Crown in Beverley. It was really nice. All but two of had a roast dinner, I had the southern fried chicken loaded fries, I think the other person had a salad.
I will definitely go back there again.

Dinner last night was here
https://www.skoshyork.co.uk/
Looking at the menu I was a bit concerned that it wasn’t really me but we had some fantastic food. It’s a small plates place so we shared
The beef toast
Cauliflower Manchurian
Fried chicken
Pork vindaloo
Crispy duck leg
Chicken massaman
Apple soft serve and a damson doughnut.
It was a quite leisurely service so we didn’t feel over faced.
It was our last meal with the friend whose house we are staying in whilst he is on a round the world six months trip. I think we gave him a good send off.

I love that place BB.
We were last there for my birthday in May. Usually some quite innovative things on the menu.
Generally we go for lunch as we can get the bus into and out of York.

Had a very nice lunch in the Camberwell Arms. Reflected on how the number of places of this quality and nature have dwindled, certainly beyond zone 2 in south London.
Last time we ate here I had a cast on my arm and it was difficult.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Don't think I posted about lunch here last Sunday
https://larock.restaurant/
It was really good, mostly with the odd weird touch.
The menu was slightly different to the on line one.
We started with a tiny amuse bouche of apple and basil meringue stuck together with some very creamy cheese. It was lovely.
My first course was Colston Basset (local) stilton mousse with walnut granola.
Others had mackerel, belly pork and mussels.
All were delicious.
We were then served a prawn cracker with a tiny cube of fried potato and a sliver of fish, topped with vinegar powder. It tasted exactly like fish and chips.
Mains were 2 x roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, 2 x venison with celeriac.
That's where it was a bit odd, the meats were very good but the vegetables were parsnip chips and ratatouille.
I would have preferred cauliflower cheese or something green and leafy.
None of us really enjoy sweet things so we didn't have pudding.
We were surprised we had been 3 hours at the table, it didn't feel overly long.
Ratatouille aside, we had a lovely time and would go again.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
That does sound a bit strange . Wow , I haven’t heard of ratatouille for ages . It had a real phase of being everywhere on menus . I guess that’s when Italian food was at its height of popularity . I’d say Asian food has somewhat overtaken it now . A lot of trends like bao buns , bubble tea etc are originating from that part of the world right now

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
I’m trying to remember when I first encountered ratatouille. Floyd on France maybe? Would Delia have done it in the early years, or perhaps Sarah Brown? In the 60s we started to see funny-looking vegetables on tables outside what my parents would call ‘foreign shops’ but there was nothing in the Good Housekeeping cookery book about them and Zena Skinner was silent on the matter.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
I encountered it when friends started to move to London after A levels or uni - very early 1970s. They made it as part of communal living. Maybe places like Cranks served it? That was before the TV cooks made it popular.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Ratatouille is in my 1983 edition of the Complete Delia. I am fairly sure it's in the first Cranks recipe book which was bought for me in 1987. Undoubtedly in one of my little Sainsbury's books. (I did love those. I have quite a collection. Somewhat dated now but I think some of the 'foreign' recipes are authentic.)
Have to say it's not my favourite thing. It goes under 'alright' but not delicious (unlike caponata). I imagine it could be something that's done more or less well, but with high quality ingredients, ought to be good.
