Re: What are you eating today?
When we lived over the hill, there used to be a really good pizza delivery place that did a white pizza that involved very thin slices of waxy potato. It was delicious. I can't remember what else was on it. Probably rosemary and possibly pear? Definitely cheese. Anyway it worked. (My favourite pasta stuffing ever was pear, pecorino and pinenuts eaten in San Gimignano.)
I would not countenance things like coronation chicken or pineapples on pizza. (Sins committed by the Gourmet Pizza Company in the '90s.)
Pizza Express still does a fiorentina with egg. Didn't the Venice in Peril pizza used to have sultanas on it The funghi di bosci pizza involves a donation to Venice in Peril these days.
Had a very late lunch in a pub. Vegan burger (The burger was quite nice but the mayo was weird (and you can get really good vegan mayo) and the vegan cheese was what vegan cheese usually is.) I didn't eat quite a lot of the meal. Just beginning to get hungry again now.
Did you go to the Japan centre, KC? You remind me, an okonomiyaki dinner is well over due. Making them is a bit of a faff but worth it. But, there is a place near the British Museum that has them on the menu...

No, we've got one on Fulham Palace Road (https://www.hammersmithtoday.co.uk/#!pa ... aurants028) - it's not only Japanese, I see it calls itself "Oriental Lifestyle"herbidacious wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 7:39 pm

We’ve got a Yohome too!
It’s very good, but I never know how to pronounce it! I’ve always thought of it as pan-Asian, I think most of the young staff are Korean kids learning English, but that’s an impression
We’ve also got the new Thai + pan-Asian independent, Pachara, must go in and ask about jasmine rice and chilli paste in oil (it’s a Thai and Burmese condiment). The supermarket has tiny packs of Tikda jasmine rice for £3, think there must be better
I did not have Thai food for dinner, I had pasta and borlotti bean soup/stew, nice enough but not sure I’d bother again. May put more details on the borlotti bean thread.

Ha, Sue - we're among the privileged
Apart from the rice noodles, it's good for miso - the white miso I use in my white bean hummus that is popular among us wildies

Re: What are you eating today?
A few days to update on. Thursday was pasta with chorizo and tomato sauce made using some very ripe homegrown tomatoes. Friday was salmon baked in foil with spinach, peas, broad beans and spring onions. Yesterday for dinner I braised a small top rump steak with lots of veg and had it with mash from the freezer and cauliflower greens. Roast lamb tonight with roasties, various veg and gravy.
Re: What are you eating today?
I went to an escape room yesterday with book club and afterwards we went for pizza

I had the cheese and onion pie which I’ve wanted to try for ages and it was lovely. I donated some to a friend who’d not ordered a whole pizza and she enjoyed it too.
As I was driving, I had a lucky saint lager and a non alcoholic cocktail.

Lunch was a lamb sandwich and salad. Yoghurt chicken curry tonight with rice and naan. I'll cook some spinach to have on the side.

I am making cheeseball lemon rice with chilli butter from Ottolenghi's Comfort
https://ottolenghi.co.uk/pages/recipes/ ... lli-butter
I am not absolutely sure that I will like it - and usually that means I probably won't, even with am open mind. But Ottolenghi's counter intuitive (to me) recipes have usually pleasantly surprised me, so fingers crossed.

Re: What are you eating today?
Supper this evening was a quiche I made earlier today (see the baking thread) with new potatoes and broccoli.
Lots of quiche left for some lunches this week.

Re: What are you eating today?
Sunday I had a bavette steak with mange tout and new potatoes, I cooked some mushrooms and a small echallion shallot in a bit of butter in the steak pan and finished with a splash of red wine to make more veg and a bit of sauce
Yesterday I made a frittata with deliberately leftover potatoes, more mushrooms, red pepper, spring , a red comet chilli (more colour than oomph).

Re: What are you eating today?
It was nice, but not amazing. You definitely needed the spicy butter. We just had it on it's own, and it might work better as a side (with, indeed falafel for vegetarians). The book suggests having it with chicken. this all said I liked the flavours. They were just maybe a little too subtle.
The rice took a lot longer than the recipe suggested. It might, perhaps, have taken the suggested amount of time if made in a pot with a tight-fitting lid. It's quite hard to tightly fit foil to anything.
Re: What are you eating today?
Nigella's traybake chicken thighs with peas, leeks and dill. Very successful, as usual. It's a regular in the KC household DS2, who loves peas, was extremely appreciative and full of praise
Followed by the other half of my panettone pudding (with a last year's panettone that has been lurking around waiting for someone to eat it!) Again, rather good.
Thx to friends on the Christmas thread for encouraging me to use single cream instead of the double that I would have had to buy specially when I made it a few days ago!

Re: What are you eating today?
Those of you who are on friends on FB will know that I had lunch out today with a friend who took me to the most authentic Indian restaurant I have ever eaten in. M is herself Indian so knew what was the best in the area.. this was Social Dharba in Hatch End...shame I've lost the knack of posting photos on here, but my 2 plates were delicious - a chicken dish and a cold veggie one containing sweet potato, chickpeas, lotus root and pomegranate seeds
