We’re very fond of pheasant leftovers.
Re: What are you eating today?
Discovered a nice bought soup today - was pottering in M & S thinking we didn't have anything planned for lunch and looked at the soups. I didn't want to get anything I might make myself, so got their chunky smoked haddock chowder - it was very good. A find! I would never in a million years make one, so it will certainly be bought again

Supper this evening was a saffron chicken and pea risotto, made using stock from thr remains of Sundays roast chicken, in which I’d poached a couple of chicken thighs with some saffron. I had meant to also include a leek that’s been sitting in the bottom of the fridge … but everyone’s leeks seem to be saving themselves for something else at the moment
Re: What are you eating today?
Not contributed here for a few days due to having family staying and no chance to noodle. Back to just the two of us now and a bit more time on my hands.
Last night crispy buttermilk chicken goujons with bought ploughman’s chutney, jacket potato and tenderstem broccoli.
Tonight, flat iron steaks with green peppercorn sauce, Morrisons oven chips with rosemary, roasted Mediterranean vegetables.
I also have leeks in the fridge, earmarked for a leek and potato soup in the next few days but not sure when exactly.

A bit of a trip down memory lane today. Years ago , when I started cooking for myself, I bought Delia Smith's "One is Fun", and the first dish I made was "braised steak au poivre". It couldn't be easier, but it was my first step to making dishes I'd only heard about, and I loved it. I'll be making it again, this afternoon.

Enjoy your steak Gruney.
I’ve had a hankering for lamb shanks over the last few weeks but no supermarket seems to stock them in the chiller section any more. Morrisons are the only one these days that have a butcher’s counter but they didn’t have any on display. As I walked away the assistant asked what I was looking for then promptly produced two legs of lamb which he then butchered to produce two shanks. They are absolutely huge so will be chuntering all afternoon and I think there will be leftovers to maybe put in a wrap tomorrow.
I really wish the local farm shop didn’t close down after covid, they were great for meat.

Re: What are you eating today?
We have a small gammon joint for tonight, haven't had one in ages.
It will be served with roast garden potatoes and parsnip, plus sautéed leek and cabbage.
Maybe a jus of some sort, J is chef de cuisine this evening.

Yesterday we ordered a Chinese takeaway for supper …
Crispy duck and pancakes etc (mainly for OH … it’s his fave)
… and
King prawn chow mein
Stir fried mixed veg in a garlic and oyster sauce
Crispy shredded chilli beef
And prawn crackers … yum.
This evening’s supper will be a boiled smoked bacon hock with creamy mashed potatoes and broad beans and parsley sauce.

Re: What are you eating today?
I finally got around to making a “pumpkin” curry on Saturday, actually a turban squash, nice but obviously a faff to trim, won’t bother again. Saw a woman make a Sri Lankan pumpkin curry on Morning Live, didn’t quite follow her recipe but glad I saw it to use as a base, I wouldn’t have cut the veg chunky enough, used enough onions or cooked them low and slow or added some block coconut cream (she used coconut oil which I don’t have, and various ground spices but I had a Sri Lankan curry powder made up recently)
Had a chicken thing from the freezer on Sunday and the rest of the curry last night.

I've not been posting much recently but made this yesterday and if you are a smoked haddock lover I'd definitely recommend it. I think it would also work well with chickpeas so will try that next time. https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/butt ... oked_72130

Re: What are you eating today?
I am trying to use things up and work down the freezer, so the plan for tonight is a (stuffed) gnocchi gratin with a home grown tomato passata based sauce. I don't really have many other suitable/appealing vegetables to put in it... Carrots, parsnips, sweetcorn... Too tired to go out and get something else. It might end up having petit pois in it. And cheese, of course. We have lots of cheese to eat up but even if we didn't... will also put a little chipotle in as well as herbs.
edit: ricotta gnocchi baked in a very slow cooked roast tomato sauce (!): oregano, basil, thyme, chipotle flakes, capers, spinach, garlic, onion. Provolone piccante.

Re: What are you eating today?
Late afternoon lunch of a shared rump steak from the butchers on the bridge in Newbury was one of the best ever. I bought 2 but they were large. I did it with potato salad and a mixed veg (mixed peppers, shredded carrot, sp. onion,) in a slightly spicy coconut dressing. Really good and memorable. Coconut curry with potato pieces served with a mix of rice, and some small dal for todays main meal.
Re: What are you eating today?
Fridge raid dinner as been at work since last Friday . Salmon cooked in the airfryer with a couscous salad with tomatoes , diced green pepper and red onion, crumbled feta and a balsamic vinaigrette. Oh , and corn on the cob
