Sorted!

Image

They are 15% more expensive than last time (£1.29>>>£1.49).

Not sure what to do with the cherry tomato sauce, impulse buy. I also have some fabulous vine tomatoes I also impulse bought in Aldi a few days ago which I haven't decided what to do with.

I have bought those little bottles of tomato sauce while on holiday in Italy. I treated them like passata.
A little simple sauce for pasta?

I stock up on those tomato sauce bottles - they're handy when you want a bit of 'light' sauce & not an overpowering one - I used a bottle last week in a simple marinara sauce to go with a packet of mixed seafood ( also from Lidl - very handy to have in the freezer) & fettuccine - the sauce was a background rather than a feature & worked well.

On my way home from visiting daughter, I pass both an Aldi and Lidl, depending on which road I take.

I would often pop into Lidl in Cowley but I now get more cash back on my debit card if I shop at Lidl in Yiewsley...what a horrible shop it is though.. very untidy and I could only find a couple of Italian things. Of course I couldn't remember what anyone recommended on here. 🙄😉😒

:-)

I sneaked back and got a kilo of arborio rice for £2.49 (£3.30 in Tesco).

It annoys me that Lidl don't put their prices online though (other than specials). I went to Aldi first for the arborio, because their website had it on there for £2.49, but it also said "while stocks last", so I guess it was a special. They had none, so I popped into Lidl on spec, and it looks like they always stock it at that price.

Went there today to get some more of the Italian week goodies before they are finished. I saw, and bought, a burrata - I hadn't noticed burrata there before, it wasn't under the Italian brand label, just the usual stock. We had it for lunch, it was really very good indeed.

We don’t have either Lidl or Aldi that we would happen to pass but I’ve just read that Lidl is going to move into the old Morrison’s building in Brentford - so hopefully before too long I can join in here!

The Alpine stuff all looks very meaty but I can see two thinkgs I'd like. Maybe I can pop out after my long covid session.

I love the pretzel breadsticks from that range. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll pop in after work

I was interested in the (meat-free) rosti. They make a useful storecupboard standby, especially if augmented with some cheese, sweetcorn (faux bacon) and herbs and spices, when you can't face cooking properly. I do it in an enamel dish in the oven, so don't even need to stand over it.

Rocky, there are a couple of Lidls not that far from you, but unlikely on your way anywhere (unless you're going to Ealing or West Midd Hospitals!). The one on the Uxbridge Road in West Ealing is titchy, whereas the one in Hanwell is more worthy of a special trip. The Hammersmith one is not too bad, for a small one. They are also opening one on North End Road - handy if you are going to the market but I doubt there will be any parking so really just for stuff you can easily carry.

I have a good friend in Acton Town, our neighbour from when we used to live there, and so I go to the one on Churchfield Road in Acton. There is parking and it's really OK, given that it's not one of their larger ones.

I hadn't heard about Brentford. I didn't know that Morrison's had closed.

I went on Monday, wasn’t very excited by the current offering but they still had quite a lot of Italian stuff, so I bought some bits and bobs.

Herbi - I’m puzzled by “meat-free” rösti, I’ve never encountered a meaty rösti

Sue, there are some versions that have bacon or ham or similar, not proper, original "rosti". When I get it at Lidl I have to make sure I get the "proper" one. As far as I recall, I've not seen it with bacon etc in Swiss supermarkets but it's been a while since I was in one, looking for rosti. I usually raid my sister's store when I'm there!

Yes, I've not been excited by the Spanish weeks in the past. Nice cheeses like Manchego, I think.

I had some little pots of very slightly sweetened ricotta-like cheese last time which I liked a lot but I don't think they're on offer this time it'll stop I am intrigued slightly but only very slightly by the gazpacho flavoured crisps.

Yes,I suppose you could put lardons or similar into a rösti mix, I make mine from scratch so it’s all vegetable, and that what I’ve had the couple of times I’ve had it in a restaurant.

Must look at the Iberian stuff, though nothing caught my eye in the brochure
