The places I use are a bit different, not stations in supermarkets selling mainstream brands, they are independent zero-waste stores, with an emphasis on sustainability, so not only refilling your laundry detergent, but using a brand that should be more eco-friendly than the mainstream brans, such as Suma, Fill, or Ecover; though a lot of them won't stock Ecover as they don't collect the bulk containers so not really zero waste. They also stock loose dry goods such as pulses and nuts, mainly organic. The one I mainly use sells great Puy-type lentils for example, and as I seldom bake there's a second saving of waste if I take some Tupperware and weigh out the recipe amount of things like ground almonds.

I don’t think there are any round here to use, but I like the idea of recipe ingredient weighing. Clever. And obvious to everyone…..except me .

I love savoury crumbles. Just the season for them so must think about it. Tomato sounds lovely, especially as so many people seem to have a glut!

Why, having given exact weights for ground almonds and breadcrumbs give the quantity of oats as “a small handful”? Lazy Rachel! I think her hands are a fair bit bigger than mine or EMs

I was (very briefly) introduced to her at a cook boo event, she's a striking, rather pre-Raphaelite style woman, one of the things that makes her striking is that she's a fair bit taller than my 5'6" and not willowy (she's not big, more athletic and healthy-looking)miss mouse wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 1:57 pmWhat makes you think that? Yes, it is a bit naughty to resort to hands/fists after careful weighing of everything else!!

I'm a lot shorter than that, 'tisn't fair. She sounds a bit terrifying.Stokey Sue wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:54 pm one of the things that makes her striking is that she's a fair bit taller than my 5'6" and not willowy (she's not big, more athletic and healthy-looking)

One of the comments 'likes her writing style', I'm not keen on it.

I gave mum's away when decluttering her place at some point, quite different, unglazed terracotta
I've got a Pyrex roaster I quite like, similar effect, but also good as a super sized casserole dish. Must be 50 years old (wasn't new when I got it)

I use an old fashioned self-basting domed enamel roaster. Marvellous.

What fun! Not very flattering round the middle though.
I didn't have a terracotta chicken brick. I seem to remember you weren't supposed to wash them so that the porous surface sealed - and it didn't sound very sanitary. I'm sure they were fine!
