The Telegraph is reporting that Aldi are launching Hot Brussels Sprout sauce. I’m waiting for a link that isn’t behind a paywall.

Interesting that the Aldi sauces are branded as Sauce Shop, which is a regular deli brand, and usually pretty good
I found the best way of getting rid of mice was to clean the kitchen counters and vacuum the floor religiously before bed, all food being in the fridge or sealed containers,

Re: Foodies In The News
When St John opened, The Sun got a story out of it and were theatrically incensed that they were served a dish that was just boiled egg and carrots, for the incredible sum of £3.50 (or whatever it was). Somehow it survived.
However, I would imagine that a restaurateur who publicly criticises their customers for not spending enough is on a sticky wicket.

The purpose of a sandwich is to be able to eat it on the hoof, in one's fingers without cutlery or plate.

These look delicious!https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/n ... eese-sauce
And as there are alternatives to deep frying I may well make them at some point!

Hmm, I thought that the small florets were going to somehow be kept whole with other ingredients helping to shape the ball. Not sure about mashing!

I do like the sound of those and I suppose you could use many vegetables in place of the cauliflower.

It seems an awful lot of fuss. I always buy Basmati and a scant twice the volume of water and away it cooks. The same works for Arborio. On a cooking prog two trained chefs with family traditions of rice were baffled by the rinsing, one SE Asia and the other India.KeenCook wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 1:23 pm ... and the best way to cook long grain rice!! https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/n ... na-berrill
Re: Foodies In The News
i put one cup of rice (unwashed) to one and a half cups (same cup) of water, cover, bring to the boil then put it in a wonderbag to continue cooking.
it'll still be very hot (and perfectly cooked and separate) even a few ours later without further energy input.

Re: Foodies In The News
Chinese friends do wash rice, and washing and soaking makes a definite difference to pilau, pelau or pilaff (variants on a theme)
My theory is that washing rice was more important when it was processed manually but modern milling makes it largely unnecessar
Interesting that they fixated on basmati ("other long grain rice" presumably for the hoi-polloi?), don't mention Jasmine rice or ask a Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese etc cook. In countires where rice is eaten with chipsticks, rice is no tmeant ot be toatlly separate grains, too hard to pick up
I cook a single portion in a microwave steamer, multiple portions by absorption on the hob. I do agree that restin ghelps in either case, The pilau with onion, spices and various other things I cook in the oven for choice, it does work well
