I think it's sorted. He speculated that the fact that I have not yet sent back the disc meant that the order was open hence sending a reminder... even though they have the new contract on the system. Still not a prepaid envelope to send the disc back, though.

I hope that's it, they really ought to have sent you a prepaid envelope - we got one when we were migrated to EE.

They should have, but it didn't turn up so I ordered another. Hopefully it will come this week. They were right on my back, and an envelope arrived, within days of cancelling my mother's broadband after she died.

If you had a bt email address, were you able to keep it?
I also believe that all the "legacy" telephone connections are being phased out by the end of the year, so if you know anything about this, please share
I did.... then BT and EE joined forces, or whatever the technical term is. A year ago I left EE when I started with Utility Warehouse. I don't recall having to pay any penalty

Still no returns envelope so rang them up. They say that the disc is marked as returned so no need to do anything... and I can keep it as a spare.

Great but a bit odd. I imagine the last person I spoke to found a way to do it and did it as a favour. (Possibly what Orange did too.)

T is supposed to be tackling Orange. I hope he does... work is bad again. I offered to do it but was worried they might refuse to speak to me as it's all in his name. (They don't allow people to have accounts in joint names. Many UK utilities don't either anymore, so it's not purely a French default to men thing, although I think that's its origins, remembering when we set up all these accounts back in 2007.)

Yep. We sorted out the Orange mystery. Basically they had left a load of voice messages which T had not bothered to pick up. (Probably wouldn't have understood them anyway.) Upshot is that they say they did some preparatory work outside to enable connection and that it should all work now... so do we give it another go.
T thinks he may have told them to alter out account status so that it's not down as cancelled. We need to decide whether to give them one last chance, and if so does he go over or do we pay someone to be there (can't ask neighbour yet again)? Either way another phone call is needed.
