Ha! I think the crisp manufacturers have a basic range of about 5 generic (chemical) flavours which they mix at random and call the resultant flavour whatever they fancy. About the only thing that tastes like real food is the herb flavour in "...with stuffing" crisps, and even that is probably artificial. Didn't stop me eating a whole bag of Tesco Turkey and Stuffing crisps in one sitting over Christmas...

This week's Lidl special :-0

Ooh, I’d try them - Tony Singh made them on a tv prog, I understand they are pretty common in Glasgow

Btw, if you see the Lidl smoked dill trout, we'd recommend it (especially if they are RTC!). We and our guests enjoyed it.

Ah! Tying in with Veganuary! There are a couple of interesting-looking things there.

we had the plant based 'corn dogs', from aldi, the other night (also a veganuary tie-in maybe) - they weren't bad at all but then i've never had a 'real' corn dog.

I've never had a "real" corn dog, either, Smitch, DS2 had one in LA and said it was disgusting ...

A corn dog is just a variant on the chippy "battered sausage" really - I'd imagine it would be quite nice if the battered were well made and properly cooked and it was a good frankfurter, most are horrible but I bought some Herta proper frankfurters a while back and I really liked them

Vegan frankfurters I think are closer to the real thing than most vegan sausages, the texture works and the smoke flavour covers some gaps I suspect, I ate quite a few of the Taifun ones when I couldn't eat meat post Covid. Tivalli oth are quite nasty in my view

I was puzzled by the battered sausage as a child, I was thinking of someone bashing them with a cricket bat

The US equivalent of B&Q is Home Depot. Most have a hot dog type stall in the car park. My late friend's idea of heaven was to browse in Home Depot then have a corn dog from the stall (people would go there to get them even if theyvweren't going shopping). It was certainly the highlight of the trip for me .

They were nice. I'd certainly try a vegan one for the record.

Haha, EM, our B & Q has a stall in the car park that does bacon butties. One of my friends' favourite go-to for a bacon butty!! When she and her husband need to go to B & Q they time it deliberately!

I don't do new year's resolutions, but if I were to, it would be to eat less faux meat (and overly processed food generally. Not that I eat that much...) I am always a sucker for novelty, though. I might go and have a look tomorrow. (Last day of no-work freedom 'excitement' - the weekend doesn't count.)
