In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
Had to post this, it's so silly...
I'll stick with my Aeropress, although I worked out that after just 230 trillion expressos the Manument will have paid for itself.

EDIT: Of course I meant ESPRESSOS.

Very tempting ..
Re: In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
Maybe there'd be a discount if we bought two...
P.S. My HOUSE cost about that much, in 1979...

Re: In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
Hmm - I think I’ll not go for a remortgage.
I recently thought I’d get some decaf ESE pods (tightly packed paper coffee bags to replace loose grounds) to go in my Sage espresso as the grinder is always full of other coffee beans. Got a box of Intenso pods, which seem to be one of the more easily available ESE brands, very please. Don’t think most people would guess it’s a decaf espresso. I’ll try one in the Aeropress

nah, don't need one of those. it looks over engineered, overpriced and too large for a normal sized kitchen. i'd rather have a 'pavoni', they make a good cup of coffee (but still rather overpriced for me) and one of these - purely because they look beautiful - and bonkers.

That brings back memories of wrestling with my Soxhlet apparatus, at uni and in a working lab
I’ve a feeling my Soxhlet filters may have contained asbestos in those days

Re: In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
Happy 10th Anniversary to my "In Praise of Aeropress" thread (and my Aeropress...)!
I'm still smitten. At 2 or 3 cups a day (mornings only, I drink tea in the afternoon) that's around 7,500 cups I've made in that decade, and at 300 filters per pack I calculate I'm on about my 25th pack now! There are two new coffee shops locally that do the filters, so I don't have to worry about fake filters, which abound online (and tend to burst).
A few hiccups, even the proper filters occasionally burst, and a handful of complete tragedies, the most recent when I accidentally elbowed the thing off the worktop when it was brewing, coffee grounds went absolutely everywhere.
Not many bad cups of coffee, the only truly awful coffee I recall was Poundland(?)/B&M's £1 packs some years back (although I think they may have been ground not beans), and Aldi seemed to have changed their "House Blend" beans, which are now a bit bitter for me, but I mix them 50/50 with their Italian Blend beans which makes a good cup at a budget price. However as my financial situation has improved, I can now treat myself to more expensive beans anyway, currently Lidl's Nicaraguan beans
Still measuring the coffee with my weeny Ebay scales and still grinding with my (adapted) £35 De Longhi.
Here's the original post, it's interesting to note that our original board still seems to be working, so technically we've never lost any posts since it started. The only thing missing is some of the posted images, which I probably have backups of somewhere if anyone wanted them reinstated.

Wow, though I do know that everything we ever write can be found. Maybe The Dark Web is differrent, I'll ask the cyber-expert when I see him.
Is Rio's board OK still? I hope Rio is thriving.

Re: In Praise of Aeropress Volume 2
I though I'd posted yesterday
I still have my aeropress but don't use it much, it's the fall back and for tking to holiday lets
My coffee grinder died (pretty sure a mechanical link failed) but I'm not replacing it, as my next machine will be a pod one, I just make too much mess with grounds especially if I grind the beans myself.
I was pleased to discover looking back that the coffee I used to get from the Alg (Algerian Coffee Stores) was Velluto Nero, I wasn't sure
I'm pretty sure the Alg has a full range of Bialetti spares if you are ever stuck Miss Mouse

LIFE'S TOO SHORT...
"LIFE'S TOO SHORT"
I let out a loud "HAA" when I realised that the first gizmo in this video (for weighing coffee), the Subminimal Subscale, is FORTY EIGHT QUID, then let out an even louder "HAA" when he started explaining the second nonsense gizmo. I'd run out of HA's when I checked the price of the "Timemore Duo" - £125...
P.S. My mini digital scales for coffee weighing cost me £3.99 and are fab.
