An extract from Jay’s new book.

I must have a go at a couple of those recipes.

I read that earlier PP, the chicken looks good

I think a few of us have met him or at least seen him in the too, too, solid flesh - oddly he didn't strike me as extraordinarily large, certainly not gross, so the gym is clearly doing its work of keeping things in check.

I rather enjoy Jays writing, I think I might be tempted by his new book.

I have seen him in the flesh, at a recording of The Kitchen Cabinet in a primary school. He did indeed look quite big but as we were all sat on primary school sized chairs I think we all did. I saw him later and agree with Sue, he is a big man but not huge. His body fits its frame if you get what I mean.

I thought that looked really good, and possibly easy enough for me to be able to give it a go!

The breakfasts look very good. Am contemplating how one might eat the Connaught's breakfast roll elegantly. I think a knife and fork would be required :D.

Thanks PP! The Regency Cafe is a fave of ours! Sam's Kitchen is v local, and we felt rather overpriced for what you got. The River Cafe Cafe is even closer; haven't tried it.

They nearly all look good, but I'm not really a fan of going out for breakfast

I notice that round here many good cafés (as well as greasy spoon caffs) are open from 08:00 to 16:00 which is slightly annoying if you want to meet someone for afternoon coffee and cake, but I think it's logistics - if you are going to serve lunch 12:00 to 14:30 you have to be in the kitchen at 08:00 and then you really want to let staff go after an 8 hour shift. Two good breakfast places (one Palestinian, one modern British over the road adn I never go, also a good coffee shop.

Sue, we go to the Regency Cafe for lunch, either before or after going to Tate Britain. They do lovely schnitzels (I've had chicken ones there). I have had English Breakfast for lunch, too.

They do very nice old-fashioned apple crumble and (yellow) custard, too, which is enjoyable from time to time! You just have to remember not to eat too big a main course as the portions are extremely generous (or at least were, the last time we went there which was pre Covid).

The best Indie Food Products. I thought the headline meant something totally different.

That's a good selection of things. As you suggest, sadly, the effort to create and market good things does not always agree with one's purse.

There are 20 crumpets for £25. I'd like to try one.

A lot of it looks expensive - I thought the pies looked good - and reasonable value.

I'd be quite happy if someone gave me a hamper with most of the vegetarian items :)

The Bold Bean company butter beans are surprisingly delicious. I have to eat a few spoonfuls from the jar when cooking with them. I am not a fan of the canned ones I have had.

The Island Bakery Lemon Melts are very nice. I bought a bag of Hodmedod’s dried beans. They were labelled ‘fava’ (annoyingly, as they would have been called ‘tic beans’ before Hannibal Lector got cooking). Haven’t actually cooked them yet, with or without liver, but have sown a few over the plot.
