Re: Soup
Haha, BM, you can pigeon post some over to west London :D :D I got some delivered from Asda yesterday, £1 for 150 g, which is cheap, compared with what you could pay! We love cavolo nero/ kale "crisps". Take out the toughest stems and tear/ cut the rest into evenish sizes, massage in some ...

French Onion Soup https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2012/mar/22/how-to-cook-perfect-french-onion-soup It was excellent lick lips miss mouse, I don't recall seeing a lobster bisque in the M & S I was at, I'm afraid, but it's not a specialist food store, just a reasonably ok dep...

I'm making Felicity's French Onion Soup today https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2012/mar/22/how-to-cook-perfect-french-onion-soup The onions have been on for about 40 mins so far, and no sign of them turning caramelised yet ... What a fascinating discussion about goats and goatiness etc! The things you learn on here :D :D Something I've never really wanted to eat is rabbit - people say it's not unlike chicken, but I've never given it a try. I also understand that it has more small bones, presumably, if it's not been well b...

Re: What are you eating today?
Discovered a nice bought soup today - was pottering in M & S thinking we didn't have anything planned for lunch and looked at the soups. I didn't want to get anything I might make myself, so got their chunky smoked haddock chowder - it was very good. A find! I would never in a million years make...

Re: What are you eating today?
World pasta day was celebrated with a linguine carbonara and a tomato, onion, and basil salad. I do think carbonara is better with pecorino Romano than Parmesan but nice either way. We had linguine carbonara yesterday, too, with the guanciale I got at Lidl's Italian week. We (well, actually OH :D )...

Thanks Herbi, he was fine, although headed for his bed as soon as we got home! I just posted this on the chat thread: Lunch was great, I forgot to take any pics, but it was really delicious. The waiters were a strange mix between almost over attentive and inattentive! They had to be reminded to give...

I guess they're trying it out for the first time and will see how it goes down with the punters, Moira.
Also, of course, for those without the easy access to the ethnic shops themselves it might be interesting.

Re: Aldi/Lidl specials - recommendations
Picked up some Austrian Linzer Keksi at Lidl this morning, without reading what they actually were. I imagined they might bear some resemblance to Linzertorte, which I love. What a disappointment. Horribly sweet, half covered in chocolate with some sort of unidentifiable hard "jam" in the ...
