Re: TV and outline cooking shows
Really enjoyed the Gullah episode and would love to see El Paso as I know people who come from there. Must see if it is accessible (looks as though it's on YouTube).
Re: TV and outline cooking shows
Forced myself to watch ten minutes of James O'Liver's "Money Saving Recipes".
It was a swiz. They were just ordinary recipes, he got round the "money saving" bit by saying the pork and chicken in both dishes was "leftover". I wouldn't expect anyone on a tight budget to have leftover pork and chicken, it would all be budgeted for.
It also annoyed me that in one recipe he suggested for convenience using a cajun spice mix rather than a DIY mix. £1.60 in Tesco. I have all the ingredients to hand, would cost pennies to put together.

That's something that really gets my goat. I'll see a recipe that sounds good from its title, then find it uses packets or jars of spice/herb mixes. I'd much rather DI-Myself. As you say, Sakkarin, it would be much cheaper and it also allows you to vary the ratios of the components to your own taste.

In Jamie's defence, buying a sachet of spice mix for one dish could be more economical in the long run than buying a dozen jars of different herbs and spices which then linger unused in the back of the cupboard, if that particular dish isn't repeated.
No-one should keep a well stocked store cupboard of seldom used ingredients, only to find, when needed, that things have gone out of date and are now unusable. Not all ready-ground spices keep indefinitely and seeds and nuts go rancid when too old.

I did watch a bit of the latest "Remarkable Places" with Rachel Khoo, but even her gorgeousness could not offset his annoyingness, I'm afraid I gave up after about 10 minutes.

I can’t bear Fred but I find Rachel Khoo totally unwatchable I’m afraid.

I'm enjoying the series - thought Rachel Koo much better than Andi Oliver the previous week. The Viennese food looked lovely.

Hmm. Not sure whether I am enjoying it. The Andi-Fred floor show was just dire, the constant repetitions of eg ' You have brought me to a petrol station to eat' was very tedious. Good grief, Imagine Fred front of house asking every two mins 'Are you enjoying your meal?' The horror.
Thanks for highlighting them Mark.

Crazy Delicious
This popped up on my download site. Was on Netflix. Your mileage may vary depending on where you are. It is available as well on the download circuit. And it is a 6 epi series.

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
I enjoyed the inventiveness of the Crazy Delicious competitors when on our TVs, although some others here weren't impressed. I don't suppose we'll get it now if not subscribers to Netflix, or might in a few years when it's run its course on Netflix.

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
I have just watched the programme shown last Sunday called 'All You Can Eat: Secrets of the world's mega buffet'. I think it was a repeat. It covered a day in the life of the JRC Global Buffet in Watford.
I know we have several people from that neck of the woods here. I looked in horror to start with but what a slick operation! They served 2,500 customers in one day and it seems hugely popular. The food looked quite edible really.
I've been to smaller 'all you can eat' places but never anywhere remotely like that. Did anyone else watch it?

I watched it the first time it was shown. I honestly can't work out what I think of it - whether to admire the inventiveness and organisation or recoil in horror at how crass it is!

Certainly popular! Not my idea of fine dining though.
