I’m glad he agrees with me. We’ve eaten there several times … never been disappointed with any aspect of the experience. A Norfolk favourite.

Yes, other Norfolk friends have posted as much on FB Suffs. If I ever get up there again I'll give it a whirl.

Re: Foodies In The News
The best rice salad is to be had at Food for All on Neal Street, IMO - it suddenly occurs to me that the secret may be adding tamari to a basic vinaigrette, I’ve wondered about this for decades but there’s tamari in everything there
The story is lovely, the ingredients are similar to what I’d use though I usually use peppers rather than artichokes from a jar, artichokes sound good but not as pretty, as I don’t put tomatoes in usually. But that salad sounds under seasoned. I’ve always dressed the rice with vinaigrette while as hot as possible and added the other ingredients when it has cooled, then left it for the flavours to develop, I’d never serve a rice salad straight after mixing

Do you mean Food for Thought, Sue?
Yes, I remember they used to put tamari in everything there way back then when I used to go to it a lot.
I can't remember when I last had and used some - it's like a blast from the past and reminds me of worthy 70s veggie fare!!
I hadn't come across Lisa Biondi although apparently the Swiss Betty Bossi is also a fiction - my sister has several of her books, and given me some too, and she also gave me her multi-shaker https://www.bettybossi.ch/de/Angebote/Detail/3296788481 that is great for salad dressing.

Yes, Food for Thought, Food for All is the hippy food shop on the next street, where I could get my tamari bottle refilled, tamari is alive and well and living in Stokey, it’s having a revival as unlike ordinary soy it’s gluten free
I wonder how many of these fictional characters there are? I believe both Betty Crocker and Sara Lee were real people, but they didn’t have much to do with the products and recipes

I've not been as impressed by Rachel's columns recently. I love her writing and way of cooking but I'm haven't felt the urge to bookmark then make any of them for a wee while now. She's offered some cracking dishes in the past, https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/m ... wine-sauce for example, which are gorgeous, but recent offerings have just felt a bit flat.

What’s yours? Mine is gravy but I think it’s because I dislike gravy.

Great article.
Mine's poached eggs either perfect or a disaster.

I am dead good at fried breakfasts but I think I was possibly born to be a caterer so had four children.

I once cooked a full English for 40 people in the galley of a 3 masted schooner in the harbour at Burnham on Crouch
I’m sure there are loads of things that defeat me, but I’ve just eliminated them from my enquiries, it used to be poached eggs but I’ve got them now
Edited to add: pancakes are my nemesis, if making them I do it in advance so nobody can see how many I discard

Re: Foodies In The News
I have had a couple of moon cakes years ago and didn’t really like them much, unfortunately the fillings I’ve been given are aduki red beans (yuk) and lotus seed (meh) but I see there’s far more variety than I’d appreciated so maybe I should seek out some different ones, there are a couple of Chinese bakeries on Gerrard Street

I've only had them once and wasn't a fan of either fillings or the overall texture tbh. A savoury one might suit my palate better.

Just added it to mine, too , thanks liketocook.
Not available over here until the end of Sept. but it looks good - and not so daunting as some Ottolenghi recipes!!
