A blast from the past? Retro Cornflake Tart. (I don't remember ever having this).

Ooh, yum! Our treacle tart at school was sometimes made with cornflakes rather than breadcrumbs. It was my favourite sort, really delicious. This looks worth a go (damn this diet :( )

We had versions of cornflake tart at various schools, but what strikes me about that one is the very thick cornflake layer, all the versions I’ve seen have been thinner, I’d worry about sogginess

I agree Sue. I'd put the filling into a shallower pastry case.

Green custard? :?.

Interesting article on Noma https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/n ... rger-joint
Didn't Jono, one of the prof Master Chef contestants do a stint there? Was he the one who produced the marrow bone creme brulee or am I getting muddled?

i didn't have the cornflake tart at school but it was one of the puddings my mother made. no layer of jam, just golden syrup and cornflakes in soggy bottomed pastry (probably due to being baked in/on a glass plate).
i didn't know that treacle tart was made with breadcrumbs rather than cornflakes until my mid twenties. the pandora down at restronguet (then) had it on their menu and that my partner ordered - and which i ate rather a lot of, it was gorgeous - with clotted, of course.

I think we had the jam kind at one school and the syrup kind at the other

Trouble is, I don’t like cornflakes

Don’t think we ever has green custard, ordinary yellow, pink, or chocolate

My sis used to make something similar. Rice Krispies, marshmallows and God knows what else. Absolutely divine :gonzo

Ah Rice Krispie squares - somewhat different, and much nicer IMO

We dropped the mixture as nuggets into paper cake cases when we were too young to use the sharp knives required to cut into squares

I was never so keen on the rice krispie/marshmallow bars, they were too thick. Dropping into paper cases sounds better. I preferred chocolate cornflakes or rice krispie cakes (with or without raisins).

There were a number of recipes on the side of Kellogs cereal packets over the years. 'Flaky Bars' featured quite a lot in our family. I have the recipe somewhere. Without looking, I think it was basically a warmed butter/syrup mixture with cornflakes and a water icing drizzled over at the end. Wasn't there a Kellogs cookbook?

On GBBO illustrations. I love them. I always feel a bit sorry for the contestants as the illustrations are usually so much better than the actual results!

Moira brought the sprout ketchup to our attention some time ago - it's turned up on my social media feeds regularly ever since

I’ve got the sprout ketchup and the stuffing ketchup in the cupboard. They also do a spiced cranberry ketchup. When I’m brave enough to try them I’ll pass on my verdict
