Been living the high life, had a Fiesta vegan burger in Wetherspoons

Not bad, a Beyond Meat burger patty (possibly slightly overcooked as it was crisp at the edges), in a bun with plenty of guacamole and salsa, some salad, crisp onion rings, lots of really nice chips

Recommended if stuck for a vegan/dairy free option, or just a change, the patty didn’t have a lot of flavour but it was ok

I looked up the ingredients, not what you’d use at home but nothing strikes me as nasty
Water, pea protein* (16%), canola oil, coconut oil, rice protein, flavouring, stabilizer (methylcellulose), potato starch, apple extract, colour (beetroot red), maltodextrin, pomegranate extract, salt, potassium salt, concentrated lemon juice, maize vinegar, carrot powder, emulsifier (sunflower lecithin).

I really like veggie burgers on the whole . Alongside vegetarian sausages , they seem to be something that’s pretty consistently good on the vegetarian side of things

It’s very easy to knock Wetherspoons, and it’s not my usual cup of tea, however the two times I have eaten there I have been impressed. Yes it’s not fine dining but at the price point it’s not bad.

I was just disappointed that they age checked practically every woman entering the place (a Saturday night in Burton on Trent) apart from me and my mate- maybe our walking boots and waterproof anorak’s gave up away as middle aged ladies rather than cocktail downing young filly’s

My friend went up to the bouncer and challenged him as to why we hadn’t been asked for ID, it’s fair to say that he really didn’t know how to respond. She let him off the hook with a cheeky wink.

BB I was quite pleased listening to 3 nice young women chatting in the loos, looking forward to when the 4th member of the group would be old enough to be ID checked and join them - they took it absolutely for granted that the check would happen, would be thorough, and should be borne with good grace.

Last night was wild and portobello mushroom wellington with black garlic sauce, roast balsamic red onions, asparagus and some fancy potato thing.
Norfolk cheese board to share after. No photos. Orange Tree Thornham (and the only place locally with a table.)
Not bad but maybe not as nice as they thought it was!
Lunch today in Blakeney.

Ooh Herbi. We had a lovely week in Thornham one Easter about 30 years ago! Unfortunately it’s so long ago I can’t remember anywhere we ate. Our eldest was about ten at the time.

We have had several lovely weekends at The Lifeboat in Thornham.
Not in the last 20 years though.
Hell, am I really not still 35?

That pasta looks amazing Herbi.

Last week we ate at Where the lights gets in, where I’d wanted to try for a few years. Generally the tasting menu was great, although I found the lamb a little too funky for my tastes. Also the kitchen was open which meant there was a fair bit of smoke wafting around at times. Drinks were ridiculous …cheapest bottle of wine was £50  Some of the dishes were incredible though, especially the seafood.

Sounds interesting OMCO. How do they cook potatoes in soil...?

I think there are quite a few high end places to eat in Thornham and indeed in Brancaster, but most were booked up all weekend.

I felt so sick all morning I thought I was going to be, then I suddenly became hungry and we had lunch (which seemed to help. Maybe the nausea was partly lack of food? Dunno. Anyway...) I had a parsnip confit tagine with wild garlic and wild rice, then STP. OH had creamy wild mushrooms with nettle and wild garlic on toasted sourdough, then a Norfolk cheese board. This was at a pub in East Barsham. We've not eaten this well for a long long time. I did appreciate it mid-meal coughing fit that sent me outside notwithstanding.

Gorgeous pics and lovely sounding food Herbi and OMCO.

Rather embarrassingly we had lunch at our favourite pub (Black Dog in Brentford) two days in a row. On Saturday we shared merguez sausages with flat bread and two delicious sauces, tequila cured smoked salmon and some chips. Yesterday we shared a fish stew and some chips. We went yesterday because I really fancied a roast and theirs are amazing - but I hadn’t factored in that I only have my left hand available to me so OH would have had to chop everything up for me……

I have no idea! Considering the level of detail we got with each course, I should really know  The dish was fantastic though…the soil dip top layer gave way to a creamy cheese layer and a final green wild garlic layer. OH and BIL requested extra bread to finish it off.

The food in you photos looks lovely!

Hope you’re on the mend Rocky!
