We have just returned from a nice lunch at https://stjamesbushey.co.uk They launched a new menu today. OH had the claves liver and I had the ravioli. Followed by Eton mess and apple tart.

Very nice, with the usual immaculate service. The restaurant is celebrating 25 years in the village in June.

Were you celebrating anything, aero? You always give such good reports, let's hope they stay for another 25 years!

Totally forgot to post this the other day . One of the best desserts in my life at Spoken in Exmouth. A caramelised white chocolate mousse with mango and a biscuit crumb

That looks nice Amy
I was in Covent Garden, so thought I'd sneak a peek at Lahpet the Burmese restaurant
https://lahpet.co.uk/west-end/

Dead easy to find - out of Covent Garden tube, left onto Long Acre, right onto Slingsby Place, it's down the side of the big Cos store so that a good location marker.
This brings you into St Martin's Courtyard, which has several places to eat that are more useful than the joints round the Piazza, so worth knowing

As well as Lahpet there are several others nearby - the addresses on the link make them look more spread out then they are, you can see Bill's, Dishoom, Lahpet, Miscusi and Dalla Terra all neighbours, as soon as you get into Slingsby Place

https://www.theyardscoventgarden.co.uk/ ... ry/dining/

So Lahpet has a nice new building, which smells encouragingly like a restaurant in Myanmar. The menu doesn't seem to change much, but is good, ideally you share small plates to start meze style but I was alone, so I had a beer and a bowl of noodles (which I finished but probably shouldn't have) - I had Tofu nway
Rice noodles; silky split pea - tofu soup; pickles; pea shoots; tofu fritters; sweet soy; peanuts

The "soup" was a thick and creamy sauce, and the "fritters" were kittle crispy things that would have been great with an aperitif. Really good.
Also had a nice chat with the manager, the only thing I'd mark it down on is that you aren't offered any condiments, there's Balachaung on the menu but but it seemed a bit much to pay £3.50 for (presumably) a whole bowl, when I just wanted a spoonful

Two floors, both with outside seating (when the balcony opens soon), I think I saw a well known foodie about town sitting outside.

No special celebration. We just felt like a change.

I treated myself to lunch at The Ship in Brancaster. I had a starter instead of a main.

The first course is self-explanatory, I think. The second was glazed lemon tart with grapefruit sorbet.

Today we had lunch in a place called Gastrono-Me in Cambridge. A bit junky, but lots of vegetarian options.
I had tacos with black beans, salsa and er battered halloumi. We shared 'Vietnamese fries' which were basically thin chips with peanuts sriracha, mayo and hoisin. It worked.
Service was a bit off kilter - T was feeding the meter when I went in and asked for a table for two. The waiter asked me if I was waiting for someone else to come?!?

Oh also had some rather lovely cake in a nursery earlier. Cherry and something.

The family went to lunch to celebrate our grandson's 30th birthday at "La Coppola" an italian Restaurant, in Leamington Spa. If you are in the area, it's definitely recommended, and we plan to go back the next time we come up.

Service was very good and helpful, the food was good and the portions were generous - possibly a bit over generous!.

I had a veal schnitzel and OH had a lobster linguine. Hers was flambéed in brandy!

I had lunch out again. (Making up for being stuck at home for three weeks?) It was just a vegan burger and chips in the Alma in Crystal Palace... They only do very meaty or fish dishes or vegan now. Disappointing. The only vegan offerings were the burger or a Jerusalem artichoke dish, which I really didn't fancy... after last time! I didn't really fancy the burger either, tbh. Bread at lunch time is lethal and yesterday's lunch was junk food too. But it was nice enough.

This is opposite our local Costco. I can’t imagine anyone going there for a treat!

I had a beef bourguignan with rice, followed by apple pie and custard at the `Rising Sun pub in Ebury Bridge Rd, Victoria. There was plenty of it and it was acceptable pub food. Not gourmet, but plenty good enough.

We ate here on Sunday
http://www.kayalrestaurant.com/

We went to the England v Ireland womens' rugby at Welford Rd, then had a couple of beers here, one of our favourite places.
http://www.blueboarleicester.co.uk/

The beer and food were excellent.
The rugby was good but a win of 69-0 isn't desperately exciting.

On the next table in the restaurant was Emily Scarratt, who received her 100th cap that afternoon.
Barely mentioned in the sports news.

A young lad approached her table and asked for an autograph.
She obliged and had a chat with him.

For some who may have remembered me mentioning it , today was the one year anniversary of my mum going to rehab for her alcoholism and she’s not touched a drop since . We went out for lunch … again at spoken as mentioned above and shared small plates of burrata caprese salad , braised lamb shoulder , sweet potato fries and pesto baked Camembert . The video is up on my IG stories for anyone who follows me on there . Very rich , very naughty but a lovely meal to celebrate her turning her life around
