Re: Platinum Pudding
Yes, I heard about that. They were talking about it on the Today programme, it was mentioned that it should be easy to serve at the inevitable street parties.

Interesting completion, shame about the web page which does not meet accessibility standards

Apparently the celebrations will go ahead no matter what. They have been a long time in the planning and will celebrate her long reign.
Re: Platinum Pudding
I think the most appropriate pudding for Britain at the moment is Eton Mess
Poor Queen ... this government is making a pig's ear out of this year which could and should have been a silk purse ... even with Covid.
I think a really splendiferous trifle would be appropriate ... something that's a favourite through the generations ... how many children don't have fond memories of granny's beautiful cut glass trifle bowl, full to the brim of sponge, jelly, custard, cream and hundreds and thousands.
Something intrinsically British which can be served at a banquet and a street party. That'd get my vote.

Re: Platinum Pudding
Quite a few of my young (28-30 year old) colleagues seem to think that trifle is disgusting. (Something to do with wet cake ) They are the no-tea or coffee, rarely drink alcohol generation, and semi-vegan. Things are a-changing.
I'd go for a trifle.
Pea custard though. Honestly?!

Re: Platinum Pudding
It was interesting to read the criteria and left me wondering what they are looking for. As it has to be reasonably simple for the masses to make it rules a lot of things out.
Trifle does seem to be a 'love it or hate it thing these days. Of course, I am of a generation which mostly loves it. I like 'common' red/pink trifle with jelly and no sherry best .

Re: Platinum Pudding
I've now managed to read the rules, it's only the mobile site that's rubbish
The rules are quite simple - essentially no inaccessible ingredients, equipment, or methods, tastes good and looks good
I see both Regula Ysewijn and Liam Charles are judging, their own stuff is exactly the sort of thing required
But I think in reality:-
No gelatine - too many people can't or won't eat it, and that probably means no jelly unless natural fruit setting, as people find agar tricky
A cold dessert - it doesn't say so but again, very hard to deal with a hot one at The Big Lunch or in other places where it will be used
Something that won't turn to a soggy heap if prepared in the morning for lunch or afternoon tea
I'm coming round to pastry, but would need to think about it and I din't think that kind of invention is my strength

Ooh, I’m quite tempted by that EM, Annie Gray and Regula Ysewijn together should be fun
