Here you go https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prescins%C3%AAua_cheese

Probably won't get it out of Italy :
Because it spoils easily, prescinsêua cheese is not commonly sold beyond Genoa and the eastern part of Liguria, but its flavor and consistency can be approximated by mixing ricotta cheese with yogurt or sour cream.

Been meaning to post that I’ve had two excellent, rather good value cheeses, from Lidl

The first was a Pecorino Romano, even saltier than Parmesan, but also creamy, the correct cheese for carbonara and many of Rachel Roddy’s recipes

The other was an aged Gruyère, just delicious

Yes, I agree about the pecorino, Sue, really terrific.

Unfortunately it was only at our local one during Italian week - I wish I'd bought 2! I have no idea if it's generally available there, certainly hadn't seen it before.

ETA there wasn't even any parmesan there when I popped in yesterday for walnuts.

It wasn’t Italian week when I got mine, but in fact one reason I bought it was because they had no Parmesan and the Pecorino was in its place

The Gruyère is regular stock I’m pretty sure

I have had that Gruyere before and enjoyed it, but my 4 favourite cheeses at the moment are:

Iberico with truffle
Comté
Montagnolo Affine
Cave Aged Goat's cheese

All from Tesco Finest range :thumbsup :yum

I'll investigate, although it won't be vegetarian, so I shouldn't.

I never tire of Comte.

Cave aged goats cheese sounds good. Where does that come from, Patsy?

All from Tesco Herbi, on the shelf just along from the Comté .... It's a hard cheese, packed as a wedge and is delightful with pear :yum

If you like Italian cheese, or any Italian food, there’s a very nice deli in St Albans called “Buongiorno Italia”, a five minute walk from the centre of town. They also have a selection of interesting salami.

I went to Aldi and examined their cheeses, which didn’t take long as I don’t think they had the usual selection, though they did have Grana Padano

They also have what they described as “hard French goat cheese, flavour strength 2”

On closer examination of the label embedded in the rind, this turns out to be Frico Chevrette, a Gouda type cheese, 100% goat milk
https://www.frico.com/en-an/products/chevrette-mild

A little too mild for my taste, with a slightly waxy texture like any fairly young Gouda, but interesting as there seem to be a few goat’s Goudas around, varying a lot in maturity and price
