barbara cartland wasn't all 'bad' - she did invent the towed launch for gliders, which seems less useful than the actress heddy lamarr's invention but still helpful for a few people.

i think quite a few mothers became alcoholics because of gripe water in years gone by.

Stokey Sue, you mention cocoa upthread. I have recently become a convert to hot chocolate. I can't imagine why I'm so late to the party.....it's delicious. A drink of the gods. OH makes it in a Hotel Chocolat velvetiser, and tops it with cream and grated chocolate. Makes one long for bedtime!

Oh, treble and quadruple choccing goes on here. Did I not post my birthday cake (Parkin) and chocs last week? I meant to, but must have forgot. There's always good chocolate in our fridge.....

we have one, too (a half price offer that came through from them) - though i whizz a load of chocolate bars through the magimix rather than buy the ready done stuff from hotel chocolat.
i had one sent to our upcountry young on the same offer - but they had to send the free chocolate it came with to the subscribers address - such a shame!...

Chocolate looks good Binky!

Hope you enjoyed your birthday

I'm not a great fan of hot chocolate (or any drink that is sweet, milky and viscous) these days but I used to enjoy my night time cocoa

I always thought that cocoa was improved no end with a slug of rum in it. :wino

Sometimes, instead of a cup of tea, in a coffee shop I might order a mocha. They're often too sweet for my taste though.

Hahaha - I was a little confused by that but took it to be either a boiled egg - but maybe more likely to be a coddled egg as it’s in the retro thread.

For me, it's a medium boiled egg, in a cup or ramekin, chopped with s&p and mayo.
Probably salad cream when I was a child.
Served with a slice of toast.

My mum made that - shelled boiled egg in a cup, S&P, knob of butter rather than mayo

She called it an American egg
