My Christmas want isn’t kitchen related either, I want/need a new waxed jacket and liner for dog walking. Hence the recent trip to the Barbour factory.

We do a secret Santa between the family and I’ve asked for a dressing gown.

Iggy needs a dog coat for when it’s raining, but I’m loathe to buy it yet as he is still growing, in the mean time he is making do with a B&M cheapie. I don’t think Iggy knows who Santa is yet.

I've Goggled like a little mad thing, but I can find sets of knife + board or knives without boards, but the only suitable board without a knife I can find is hand made from maple wood, and ££££, I can find some smaller ones intended for the little herb choppers but mine is a big butch 24cm one

I would have though the boards needed replacing more often than the knives, but replacements obviously aren't a thing, odd

I'll keep looking for a well-priced set I suppose, I am using it more since my mini-chopper gave up, and I don't think I'll replace that

Is this any use Sue? https://www.boroughkitchen.com/products ... luna-board

DS1 recently had the same problem and bought this when he was in London a few weeks ago. I don't think he's really road tested yet though.

That's interesting ltc, that one came up from other suppliers but I dismissed it as it's only 19.5 cm square, so I thought it would be for a small knife (mine's quite big) but what Borough say sounds worth a try

This Mezzaluna Board from Triangle is a chopping board with a shallow indentation for use with a mezzaluna (up to 28cm in length) or hachoir. Made of solid beechwood. 19.5cm x 19.5cm. Hand wash. Lifetime warranty.

Hope it covers what you need Sue :crossed , certainly DS1's mezzaluna is quite wide probably a similar same size as yours.

I’m not sure that either of these were the ones I remember reading before, but they say much the same thing. It’s really disappointing, isn’t it!

Well that's saved me some money then! Thanks. I was tempted...

I am a hori hori evangelist. It's a game changer.

I have two. I mislaid one and couldn't be without it, so bought another. Then, of course, the orginal one turned up. My gardener loves it too (I lend it to her).

No. 2 was going to be a Niwaki, but I wanted one with a serrated edge so I bought this: https://www.japeto.co.uk/products/weedi ... tAQAvD_BwE

Not really been put through it's paces yet.

I have some Niwaki garden snips and these too https://www.japeto.co.uk/products/weedi ... tAQAvD_BwE

The former are brilliant. The latter annoying/occasionally painful, but attractive.

Thanks herbi and Wic for the Always Pan info! I'd seen that they were reduced to £85 but i've read so many conflicting reviews...loads positive and unfortunately loads negative like your links Wic. I've not bought one for now. Even reduced to £85 it's very expensive if it loses the non stick functionality.

Christmas-wise i'm hoping for another couple of the le crueset tapas dishes which we use a lot. I need to order some Scilly spirit island gin for OH too.

Thank you for the other Hori Hori website, Herbi, I think a serrated edge would be a very good thing! I may well not wait for Christmas and treat myself beforehand…

My tried and tested one is a Nisaku one.

Probably this one:

https://toolsandthings.co.uk/products/g ... wel-nisaku

I had a load of very deep-rooted geraniums that were making a bid for garden/world domination and it made it so much easier to dig them up - amongst other things.

Neither are carbon steel - just stainless steel, but no problems so far.

What I would really love are some boots that are
A - comfy
B - hard-wearing
C - will keep me upright on many surfaces, esp ice!
D - warm
E - not too expensive

I have a very comfortable pair of Cotton Trader ankle boots ... very rarely for me, they were comfy as soon as I put them on and a very good price (50% off iirc) ... Can't guarantee they are any good for point C, however, you can buy those trak things that fit over the sole of most boots if I recall...

How about some light-ish walking boots Grassy?
Go Outdoors has a good selection and is usually quite well priced.

Mountain Warehouse also have some nice own brand boots that don't look too specialist (I found the upstairs at my local branch last week, excellent selection of footwear) - what's in store often seems a bit different from what is on the web site

Like the Cotton Traders ones though Pat

I just ordered the fancy (Aarke) water carbonator. The sodastream is now completely kaput in a new and inventive way. I think it's going to have to be an early Christmas present to self though.

Nice looking flowers Patsy.....

Sort of Christmassy..... Bose, were offering a boom bar in the Black Friday sale. We both watch a lot of TV and some of the time the audio is so fuzzy we struggle. So having already experience a great Bose sound system have treated us to an early Crimbo pressie of a boom bar. Should be arriving on Thursday coming.

Oooh, zosh, that's something I think I'd like (or maybe a hearing aid!). There's one where I babysit and I can hear the telly much more clearly.

When DS2 properly moves back out and takes his sound bar with him it's something I'll buy for myself as I've found since he brought his that they make huge difference to the sound quality especially if you don't have a super expensive TV which I don't-well worth the spend I think.

My wish list for "Secret Santa" has been finalised a stovetop toastie maker, blue & white enamel deep roasting/baking dishes (I have a bit of a blue and white enamelware collection but they get all get used so not just dust collectors!) , the recent Stanley Tucci book and some new slippers.
