Yes, I've had those and they're very nice - and made my own. I was just surprised at the amount of crumb because if you're not really thinking about it you don't realise how much there is!

No with something like that I don't tend to look at the pack ratios, probably should though I suppose the % fish is higher in the lightly dusted ones but the portion size is smaller so probably the same size of fish fillet in each.
Re: Meal planning - love or loathe?
I've been to the farm shop and butcher and done the food shopping for the week
Tonight ... panroasted cod with cauliflower cheese (leftover from earlier) and potatoes parmentier (frozen from farm shop)
Saturday ... lasagne (made with 'second half of ragu from yesterday)
Sunday ... 'generous' bone-in rare breed pork chops with Caramelised cabbage with caraway, dill and yoghurt, and roast potatoes. (receipe from the Independent website)
Monday ... traditional Lancashire Hotpot made with middle neck of lamb, lots of leeks and sliced potatoes on top.
Tuesday ... baked plaice with creamy mashed potatoes and runner beans from the freezer
Wednesday ... sausage bake with squash, potatoes, onions and sweetcorn (same as last week at request of OH who insists he could eat it eery day).
Thursday ... Pasta puttanesca (we didn't have it last week as I made a risotto instead)@

Re: Meal planning - love or loathe?
Surely it's only LH of topped with sliced spud?
Lamb stew can be anything you like, Irish Stew seems to provoke controversy, I have been told with equal firmness always/never carrots for example
Felicity says carrots are optional but potatoes non-negotiable, which makes sense

Then there's lob scouse...

Re: Meal planning - love or loathe?
I’ve always had/made LH with the sliced spuds on top, all crispy and crunchy, but whilst living in Manchester, so old Lancashire, it was served with chunks of potato in the filling, so in my mind a lamb stew.
So who knows. I continue to call it a LH with sliced potatoes on top and a stew if containing potatoes. Always Pearl barley in both versions.

It’s actually my last supper dish. If I knew I was about to depart this earth it would be my meal of choice. Preferably made by my mum, Nigel Howath’s version would be a close second.

Re: Meal planning - love or loathe?
Lovely sounding meals suff
I love a lamb stew be it Irish, Hot pot, scouse or whatever. I'm sure despite all the debates and "definitive" versions the women cooking for hungry families would have just have used whatever they had or could buy/grow ingredients wise.
It's like the "stovies" debates up here, every area and families within it make it slightly differently.

In this house ....
LH has to have sliced spuds on top and barley in it;
Irish stew has potatoes and onions and/or leeks and possibly carrots in it (I don't know any hungry Irishman or woman who would turn up their nose at a dish with carrots in it) and the cooking liquor is not thickened ....
and lamb stew is like Irish stew with the liquor thickened.
There is also Cawl, which in this house has lamb, bacon, leeks, potatoes and possibly celery and swede ... it's as I remember the Cawl served to me by the delightfully slightly batty Aunty B on the Gower. Definitely the Cawl liquor is not thickened nor does it have barley.

When my Dad was young, his Mum used to put oysters in the Lancashire Hotpot (we're a true Lancastrian family). It's mentioned here http://www.foodsofengland.co.uk/lancashirehotpot.htm.

Calzone and air fried chips tonight using a wrap .
Tomorrow night will be Carribean lamb and sweet potato curry
Sunday - savoury quorn mince topped with a Rosti topping then baked
Monday - Cajun chicken , Mexican corn on the cob and sweet potato wedges
Tuesday . Roast pork
That’s as far as I’ve got to at the minute

Sounds good Amy, the mince bake really appeals to me. Do you use a specific recipe?

Re: Meal planning - love or loathe?
I'm isolating again from tomorrow in the hope that my lens replacement surgery goes ahead this time.
Scheduled for Saturday.
That means a bit of planning as I can't leave the house.
We have a garden full of spinach and chard, and feta and filo in the fridge so I guess that means spanakopita tomorrow.
Thursday is meatballs and pasta, from the freezer.
J will go to the fishmonger on Friday so we'll decide what to do when I see what he buys.
I found a big tub of beef stew in the freezer so that will do nicely for Saturday.
Scheduled for Saturday.

Lovely to see the thread revisited WW . I had stopped posting on it but haven't stopped meal planning. Wednesday is our "planning" day so later I'll be checking out what we already have and this evening will sit down with DS2 and see what we fancy.
