Not new exactly but I went past a Wild Bean Cafe today. They.have a breakfast deal for £4, the drinks on offer are tea, coffee, orange juice or Red Bull.
I wonder how many pensioners order the Red Bull.

Re: Tried something new
My greengrocer had puntarelle, a kind of chicory, so I made a salad, puntarelle alla Romana
https://racheleats.wordpress.com/2008/1 ... la-romana/
My slices didn't curl as nicely as Rachel Roddy's, and tbh it's a lot of faff for a fairly ordinary salad, I will slice the remaining bits in the food processor (she calls them bulbs, but unsurprisingly they look small chicons of Belgian endive to me)
But I will use the dressing again, possibly on leftover steamed cauliflower, or frisée or indeed Belgian endive

Re: Tried something new
The dressing sounds nice. Might stick to normal Belgian endive/chicory though!

Interesting dish Sue, it's so hard to get veg like chicory etc. here I'm jealous. Dressing sounds lovely.
Hope you enjoy the Nigella dish PP, I'm a barley lover so it really appeals.

Mine too but I'd swap parsnips for something else. It would need to be really peppery - the mustard should do that!

Yum.... I don't have chicken thighs in the freezer, but do have Lamb fillets ...
Re: Tried something new
Having had this at a friend's last week, when it took for ever to cook, I made it tonight, but diced the beetroot more or less the same size as the chickpeas, and it was perfect.
She had obviously made the beetroot chunks too big, or maybe she had very hard beetroot! Or maybe it's because she scaled up the recipe and didn't initially add enough extra time ...
Anyway. Really recommend it, very, very tasty
I made it pretty much according to the recipe (my hand might have slipped slightly with the spices ...) but my bunch of beetroot was 100g smaller.

Re: Tried something new
i made this one for dinner tonight https://piquantpost.com/blogs/recipes/persian-chickpea-and-white-bean-soup-vegan-abgoosht.
it was good but i think i cut the potato a little small and was a little wary of the cooking time as the tinned canelini beans i used were very soft - they should have gone in at the end of the cooking.
next time i'll leave out the salt, put stronger but less stock in, put it in the wonder bag to 'simmer' then back on the hob to heat in the beans (and leave the potato chunks a bit larger!).
ps. made it to use some of the lime powder i bought at the asian supermarket, yesterday.

Re: Tried something new
Both last two recipes look good. Love the bean one. Must go on a hunt for lime powder!
Re: Tried something new
you could probably get reasonably close with preserved lemons - it's not a particularly lime-y flavour just a citrus-ey tang.

Lovely sounding dishes KC2 and scully
DS2 tried a new curry recipe this week, Lamb Keema Saag from Dan Toombs. It was delicious. https://www.cooked.com.au/Dan-Toombs/Qu ... ema-recipe

Re: Tried something new
OH bought some different sausages from the butcher this week. Pork and Guinness. They were fine, but we both agreed that they were not worth the extra expense. So it will be back to his Cumberland ones next time, unless he has made some pork and black pudding ones. those are definitely worth a bit more!!
