In place of buttermilk for scones or pancakes.

It was popular for cheesecakes and dips in the 70s. I could dig out my Australian Woman's Weekly cookbook from the time if you would like recipes.

My American friend loved it poured on jacket potatoes.

I had this problem with half a pot of Quark. I mixed it 50/50 with self-raising flour and a tsp of baking powder and made flatbread. I had a couple for lunch and the rest are in the freezer.

? No cream in the version I know, just enough butter to make the sauce

Apart from eating it with a spoon  leftover sour cream tends to get combined with chives or spring onion and put on a jacket spud

Main savoury uses are stroganoff or paprika chicken

Makes a lovely sauce blitzed with avocado and some lemon juice. (JO recipe from 7 ways but I prefer the sauce made with sour cream to yoghurt https://tamronhallshow.com/blog/recipes ... ie-oliver/).

Use it to make Ranch salad dressing. ( My favourite).
Incorporate it into a chicken curry sauce.
Definitely a good idea on baked potatoes, with cheese and chives.
Make some sour cream biscuits, with plenty of ground black pepper.
