I'm always meaning to post on this thread ...

Tonight's supper will be a locally made sour-dough pizza from the farm shop ... I'll make a green salad and a caper/basil sort of dressing to go with it ...

That sounds lovely Suffs.

We ended up getting a takeaway last night. Some Pho each. It was delicious.

We have so many bits leftover that we have decided to have that for dinner tonight - there is a potted Stilton, a cheddar trickle, some salt beef, lots of pickles and I have made up a quinoa, pomegranate, feta and pine nut salad

I have had a ferret in the freezer (er, not literally, in case you worry!) and found turkey mince. Inspiration struck.
White bean and turkey chilli that Rocky posted a while ago. I have made it before; it's delicious.
Also pulled our 2 bird roast out to defrost for tomorrow. It was supposed to be our Boxing day meal, but that never happened.
I also have some Christmas pud, so perhaps tomorrow's meal can be a belated feast.

Home made fishcakes for lunch.

Some pals this week gifted us Rick Stein's seafood book, so I will make his paella tonight instead of the one I usually do.

Somehow they ended up with 2 copies.
It's really good, there's a whole section on techniques, such as preparing all the different shapes of fish, how to remove the meat from crab and lobster etc.

Aren't we fortunate.

We haven't had any Christmas pudding yet.
Maybe tomorrow.

We have decided to go with a (very rare for us) takeaway tonight - well, delivery. I'm sure I've ordered too much!!
The last time we had one was on my birthday in 2020, I think. Or was it 2019? It's certainly a rare occurrence.

The white bean and turkey chilli is in the slow cooker and will be easy for when we come back from the hospital after his scan

We were very impressed indeed with our takeout. Worth every penny as, as hoped, enough left for another meal.

What did you have SG? Indian? We find that we get a few meals out of one (appreciating it’s how much you order)

We realised last night what nice bits we have. Might do the same this evening. Perhaps adding a few leftover pigs in blankets….

In the end, we went Chinese and it was the nicest I've has as a takeout. I had chicken with ginger and spring onions and he has chicken with cashew.
He lodged with a Chinese family as a student and makes a very decent meal, but even he was impressed by this one.

Glad you enjoyed your take out SG.
I love "picky bits" for dinner.
Yesterday DS2 cooked Garlic Chilli chicken (Dan Toombs recipe) and dal which we had with rice and naan.
This afternoon I made a pan of leek & tattie soup and for dinner tonight I'm cooking a small lamb joint, broccoli cheese, carrots, roasties and gravy .

Tonight I am being treated to pork medallions in a mustard and honey sauce, with roast potatoes and Brussels tops.
And I'm not the chef :)

We're doing a highly recommended by a friend Ottolenghi from our new SIMPLE (p. 193)
Orzo with prawns (we haven't got any so using frozen seafood salad), tomato and marinated feta.

Will report back ....

Curry tonight - baby potatoes in a garlic and chilli sauce with a spectacular onion curry. Both are a bit involved to cook, and sadly by the time I dished up I didn't fancy it. Hate it when that happens.

Hmm maybe I should get some orzo again, I decided I wasn’t keen on the texture many years ago and haven’t touched it since

Had another fish and veg tray bake, some parboiled new potatoes, red onion, red pepper and cherry tomatoes sprinkled with thyme and a massive mackerel fillet brushed with a mixture of harissa, garlic, crushed fennel seed, sea salt and evoo added for the last ten minutes.

That looks wonderful KC.

I am having a go at a layered pie later…with ham, chicken, stuffing, softened leeks. We will keep the sides simple, probably some steamed greens. I can’t decide on a sauce/gravy but I think it’ll need something.

Tomorrow we are having a salmon tray bake with pesto, new potatoes, roasted veg.

Thai prawn and spinach curry with jasmine rice the night after.
