Home alone again tonight ( :D ) so I'm making this green bean and lentil stew.
I will probably chop some salad to go with it.

Had to make a couple of adjustments due to failing to go shopping.
Will confess if it's successful.

Gosh, that was delicious.
I didn't have enough lentils so I padded it out with a handful of paella rice, and I used the potato water to cook the lentils.

Smoked paprika is essential.

A keeper.

That's the second recipe I've seen this week which has a tablespoon of smoked paprika. I've never used more than a teaspoonful in anything. Is the taste REALLY strong? It sounds quite a nice recipe otherwise.

I used 1.5 teaspoons and it was lovely.
I thought 1 tbsp might be too much.

I made lovely jacket spuds stuffed with spring onion, spinach and blue cheese the other day. Definitely one to be repeated.

I have become aware that I get really tired by about 5, when it's time to feed the dogs (always greeted with rapturous joy!) and so I try to have things planned that can either be popped in the slow cooker in the morning, or in the main oven around the time I'm feeding dogs.
Last night, I had to start chopping and assembling just before 5 (I should just have bought a ready meal) and then, when the pyre bowl slid to the floor and shattered and the oven failed to heat to its given temp, I had a melt down.
So things are under control today and this is marinating

report on the pineapple/chicken.
It has 'the makings' of a very good dish. It was not quite as appetising to look at as the pic (but then it did have a stylist!!) and was a bit dry (we like sauce!) so I knocked up a fruity coconut sauce for the side. I'd also add more chilli.
However, we have both said we'd have it again - the one leftover thigh is delicious, cold (I can vouch for that!)

We were going for early beer with a pal yesterday so I took a tub of ragu out of the freezer for a quick dinner on our return.

The pub we were in does excellent pizza.
Just as we were about to leave the owner appeared with a pizza which was a mistake.
It's going in the bin, would we like it?

So it's pasta and ragu tonight.

We made a crab crumble with spinach and crusty bread yesterday.

Smoked haddock, pancetta, corn, potato and leek chowder tonight.

Some lovely friends booked me a spa day for my birthday last month so we are all going tomorrow. We get lunch included. OH is making a chicken and leek pie in the day so I will possibly have some when I get home.

Eldest has requested baked salmon with oven roasted gnocchi which apparently I cooked a while back :? She said it included olives, tomatoes, chorizo, peppers and other bits. Anyway, I will attempt to recreate this mystery tray bake on Monday :D

Coq au Riesling, to rest in the fridge, for tomorrow - and panfried hake for tonight, when I've had a couple of drinks, to set me up.

Love the sound of crab crumble OMCO. On Friday we had a Chinese takeaway. It was very nice. We spent yesterday at Brentford stadium watching London Irish so didn’t want much last night. He had leftovers and I had roasted sprouts with bacon and some broccoli. Tonight is one of the steaks that we bought when we had friends over last weekend but didn’t cook. I think it’s a rib eye. We will have that with leek and bacon risotto and probably some broccoli.

I had a steak dinner last night, first I’ve cooked in a very long time
The steak was a piece of rump, about the size of a pack of 20 cigarettes but thicker, it cooked beautifully and was very tender
I made “sauté “ potatoes in the oven and also baked a nice tomato with them, had a few green beans too

The failure was a portion of brown shimeji mushrooms, I cooked them carefully in butter and finished with soy per recipe and they were horrible. I’ve had similar looking mushrooms, the clumps of small long stemmed mushrooms, I’ve really liked, but these were unpleasant.

Thanks for the feedback SG.
Yesterday was "Christmas" dinner with the family so not feeling like cooking much today. Tonight we are having the sweet and sour pork recipe from Jamie Oliver's 7 ways book with boiled rice, baby corn and mangetout.

Lamb shanks for us tonight. They've been in the sc since 12 and I'll put them to crisp up with the roasties. Do you think cauli cheese will go with it?
