Re: Chatterbox 2
Having been made redundant - there’s a requirement for a notification period pp, just checked still in force, not sure they can follow this
And yes, it’s always the post not the post holder that becomes redundant, if they need a sailor, they sack the original sailor and employ another, then they can’t claim that the position was redundant, which in employment as in ordinary English means unnecessary or surplus to requirements
Employers have got into trouble before now for making individuals “redundant” to dispose of them

I wondered about 'redundancy' too. Not least because they would be entitled to redundancy pay. It's definitely a sacking. From what I've seen so far they seem to think they have avoided every loophole but there seem to be a few areas which might catch them out.
I wonder if such companies can be run at a profit. I don't know the ins and outs and of course, the Top Cats take more than a fair share, but all the same.

That's my understanding too.
A position is made redundant, not a person.
When I was made redundant 3 years ago, 4 days after my mother's funeral ,my responsibilities were distributed to other people.

What really annoys me about P&O is that they say that they need to save £100 million to stay solvent. Yet they paid dividends of £270 million. It's supposed to be investors that take the risks.

And Carillon did the same thing, as well as not paying for the medical equipment that had been delivered.

Barrel bottoming time, courtesy of Lidl, Custard Cream Cake.
Highlight of this recipe, "The sugar will provide a hint of added sweetness..."
I think I just had an epiphany.
Should we have a "What's the worst "commercial" recipe on the planet" thread (i.e. by supermarkets/ingredient manufacturers etc)?

"This custard cream traybake will help you enjoy Britain’s favourite biscuit in a whole new way".
Yes that thread would be fun.

Re: Chatterbox 2
But the evil side of me is tempted to get a pack of custard creams when I pop out to Lidl later...
NO, DON'T DO IT.

The only thing custard creams need is a big mug of tea.

Aaaw bless! New(ish) Portuguese neighbours just brought me a plate of Paella as a Jubilee prezzie
Reminds me of when I proudly gave a previous neighbour a plate of Danish Pastries. "I've got diabetes, I can't eat sugar...".
