Re: Chatterbox 2
. I've opened corned beef by removing the top and bottom with a tin opener and pushing it out for years - ever since I got a tin opener which wasn't the 'hack the tin' sort. Much easier than trying to use the key. I don't buy it very often - I hope they haven't changed it to a rounded bottom and ring pull top.
Re: Chatterbox 2
There's a Youtube showing that you can upend a tin and sit the rim on concrete like a paving slab, then vigorously rub/scrape the rim back and forth on the slab for 10 seconds or so. Turn can right way up, then press the sides of the tin and the lid should separate and spring up. I might fail at the pressing bit, but handy to know if you forget to take an opener and fancy some baked beans outside the supermarket

Reminds me of my student days.
We could never find the bottle opener so we used to nip downstairs to the lamp post.
The handle on the door worked a treat.

hahahaha - we used to use the 'handle' strip on the top of one of the kitchen drawers.
i had to buy a bottle opener when new units were put in.

I think she’s just not posting - I was wondering about her, but didn’t she say something about moving house? That might slow her down
Re: Chatterbox 2
It's good to know that Jeral is alright. Moving house is always stressful and exhausting!

I've just seen this and I'll second that, Renee!!
Jeral - Hope your move went smoothly.
We're moving in about 10 days time and I'm tired of boxes and packing - be good when it's all over!
Re: Chatterbox 2
Opening cans, here's the Magican opener I mentioned way back.
The pliers are for pulling back the cover on baked beans snack box to peel back the cover, for its one minute microwave cook.

That does look like a very practical can-opener Dennis!

The manufacturer claimed the edge isn’t sharp. Never felt like testing it! Unfortunately turning the ‘key' doesn’t help those with wrist or hand problems.

I think the magnet is such a good idea. MIL got an electric opener which fixed onto the wall when hand/wrist problems got worse and she operated it with ease. I never mastered it and really hope I never need one.
Re: Chatterbox 2
Ive got a gammy thumb so turning can openers has become a problem ... OH got me one from ProCook (where he works) that looks very like the one in dennispc's photo, but it's battery powered ... I love it ... and no, the edge isn't the least bit sharp.

Re: Chatterbox 2
I have an OXO Good Grips can opener, which works pretty well
I tried a battery operated one, but my problem with all these fancy can openers is actually hooking them on to the can and getting them started correctly so they work as intended
I had a can opener that cut through the fold over seam of the can lid, which was fine with cat food and pulses but useless with some fancy cans, and you couldn’t turn the can over and remove the base as modern cans are moulded in one piece without a seam round the base

I had to get OH to show me how to 'attach' it, but now I've got the hang of it I wouldn't be without it.

i have one of that type, bought from lidl or aldi about a decade ago - it's brilliant, my favourite ever can opener (that makes me sound so sad!) - and it makes its own, perfectly fitting lid.
i also have a magican type one (£! in a charity shop) which also works ok but is less easy to clean as the seams aren't sealed and liquid can get inside the moulding.

We ruined two of those.

ooooo
Christmas tree tip - whilst I was listening to Christmas song vids this morning.
To put your tree lights on up and down, rather than round the tree.
Think I'll give it a go in a couple of hours when I bring the tree in .....
