Re: Foodies In The News
i like avocados, and I suspect like so many things it's not binary - fewer will be grown as a cash crops for export so they will be less ubiquitous on menus in the UK and other places where they don't grow but still available in places where they grow easily and not necessarily on massive plantations
My ex grew up in Guyana and said that as avocado was popular as a shade tree there were gluts that were fed to pigs

Re: Foodies In The News
Much as I like avocados, there something I don't eat that often and get a bit fed up that they seem to be on every brunch or cafe menu. I supermarket ones are often disappointment but I'd happy pay more for a decent one to have as a treat. (The local grocers sometimes has them but it's hit or miss but tbh will most of their stuff is lovely there ones are much the same as the supermarket ones just much more expensive). I make a tasty store cupboard guacamole type dip using butter beans & peas that works well with nachos etc. The blitzed butter beans give a similar mouth feel to avocado. Good to know I'm on trend

I’m the same , I like avocados , but they’re a bit like certain songs on the radio . You like them a lot initially , but they get played to death so you get fed up with them . It seems nowadays like no brunch is without smashed avo and no drinks appetisers without guacamole (or hummus , Satan’s dip )

Well, that’s a relief!! I love them and they grow really well in Queensland! so hopefully no shortage of them over here!!
People grow them in their gardens, even in the South of Oz
Re: Foodies In The News
maybe i should plant one out in the garden here - global warming may work in its favour! (my clivia plants have survived outside over winter, for a few years, although 'the beast from the east', a couple of years ago, killed my strelizias).

My only issue with this is that if you want it for bonfire night it should have been made by now, it’s one of those things that gets better being kept a while (if you can resist it).

Personally, I don't think you can beat butter and cheese on a jacket potato, although I was impressed when a friend served me baked beans and cheese. I suppose that's not vegan though.

i didn't realise spudulike was still going!
i agree, butter, cheese - and pickle - are the best (forget the baked beans).

I thought it was more of a relaunch of Spudulike. Knowing where it’s opened in York I’m not expecting much, it’s in the food court of the Designer Outlet. Typical food court with shared seating, plastic utensils and self clearing of tables etc. Having said all that I love a baked spud, it’s just not somewhere I go very often, once a year is probably over stating it, but if it was in the city centre I might be tempted.

That looks very good, PP
And, yes, Gill did live in Cheltenham but they moved within the recent past, I recall - lockdown does strange things to your sense of time!

Emma Beddington tries eating a climatarian diet for a week. Food for thought indeed.
