The picture in the G. article shows the biscuits they sell in Lidl around Ch*****s time and I always buy some. They are not oversweet and we enjoy the spice in them.

Biscoff are good too but more expensive for a small pack but I do enjoy the spread they also manufacture on toast for brekkie.

Biscoff seems to be the European riposte to the American pumpkin spice phenomenon- a cheap sweet spice blend that was fine in its original place, but has gone too far

I am not a great fan of sweet spiced foods, though I don’t mind a slice of pumpkin pie or a little biscuit in my coffee saucer, so it’s not really for me

Hmm, it's the new Nutella by the look of it! I love the biscuits but am happy to leave it at that.

I agree, Sue. I'm amazed at how carrot cake has become the most popular cake choice. It's ok, but would never be my top choice. Sweet pumpkin goods need spice because pumpkin without additional flavour in a sweet concoction isn't very exciting!

I do enjoy the occasional biscoff biscuit but overall can't see what the fuss is about and them or the flavour seem to be popping up everywhere. Mind you I'd rather have that than "salted caramel" which also seems to still crop out far too frequently for my liking.

Carrot cake is a bit different IMO - my problem with many cakes is that I don't like the texture of dry spongy stuff, but the texture of a good carrot cake is much more pleasant to me

I quite like the texture but you mentioned sweet spiced foods and it surprises me that so many people love the distinctive spiced flavour of carrot cake.

I do consider Biscoffs a treat. They serve them with coffee at my hairdressers.

I have a recipe for Specaloos biscuits. And I made up the special spice mix. They are rather nice. :) I must make them again soon.

Gosh PP - a sort of Tiramisu! Looks wonderful. Miso instead of booze.

i would imagine that the miso would give it a salted caramel with umami kick - sounds good.

Yes, I've heard quite a lot about the Wee/Haigh issue, some people are rather upset, and there seems to be a feeling that Bloomsbury has not behaved well, I wonder if Haigh's editor was a specialist in Singaporean or even Asian food? A specialist would probably have known the Wee book

When MiMi Aye wrote her book of Asian noodles she had to throw a strop because the Bloomsbury editor knew so little about SE Asian food she went through and diligently removed every reference to rinsing noodles after boiling, "because we know now you don't rinse pasta". Don't try stir-frying noodles, especially rice noodles, that have been allowed to cool without running cold water through them - as the package instructions will tell you

Yes it does seem as though pre-publishing diligence hasn't been carried out. I can understand why some people are upset from the passages it would seem fairly obvious.
Yup made the non-rinsing mistake once, I'm not sure what you would have called the resulting gloopy mess!

Lots of fingers also pointing at James Martin who is, apparently, not averse to a bit of plagiarism himself.

Crumbles, and another use for Biscoff.
