The cake looks delicious! Any idea what happens to the caffeine in coffee when you bake it in a cake? I'm just curious - you could obviously use decaff - as I generally avoid caffeine from about lunchtime.

This is a jolly good read if you’re interested in how teenagers cope with Ramadan fasting.

Sandwiches. I'm not convinced by some of these . Surely the whole point of a sandwich is that it's quick? Some of these are definitely not.

I like the thought that you might just have some white sauce in your kitchen

Reminds me of all those articles and even whole books on how to make interesting packed lunches that demand you spend an hour of your precious evening cooking a 4 portion dish, completely ignoring that the problem for most of us is we are only packing for one, and prep time is used up on dinner

.
I learned in the USA that a sandwich could be a serious meal taking time, effort and especially sourced ingredients - and very good they were. The trouble with the article is suggesting that most of them could be made quickly - and with ingredients you have lurking!

i understand that katsu is the Japanese for crumbed and fried chicken or cutlet not the curry sauce that often covers it

Don't fancy panko crumbs in a smoothie ;) and I really dislike that Japanese curry sauce - ir fir that matter the version of brown sauce they also offer you in London Japanese restaurants

Poor guy, good luck!

I liked the sound of the stew, and people were asking for the link in the comments, so here it is: https://www.appetitemag.co.uk/jay-rayne ... bean-stew/

Wasn't his mother quite arthritic ? I suspect they have those joints

He's 54 - they used not to "do" your hips until you were 60 or even 65 because there was a concern that the repair might not last as long as you did, and they didn't like doing it again as the old repairs damaged so much bone, but it's a much more slick, lasting and repeatable op now. I saw my friends fresh scar a couple of years back, was surprised what a neat little thing it was

I really dislike that Japanese curry sauce

The Japanese apparently learned to love curries thanks to the British Navy. How their particular version became so sweet, I don´t know; I´d imagine it´s just a local flavour thing!
