Not sure about meringue cake but it's true, custard does seem to work well with most things!

I think the decline of the pork pie is probably wrapped up in the decline of independent butchers and bakers who bake them. It’s becoming more difficult to source really good ones, and who really likes the mass produced ones you can buy in a supermarket? It’s like comparing a Gingsters pasty to a freshly baked hand crafted one bought from a shop in Cornwall, day and night.

Personally, I really like a good pork pie, and yes EM Gala pie was considered a treat but I can’t remember the last time I tasted it.

I went on a pork pie making course. I have all the kit, including the mincer and pork pie dolly, and the jelly granules.
