Looks nice - maybe!
Re: Foodies In The News
I just came across this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/ ... -avian-flu
I had heard about the bird flu from friends who have a farm in Somerset but didn't know anything about the consequences/ safety precautions.

Yes, I was sort of aware of the bird flu issue because I follow @drquacksducks on Twitter (and the owner’s human account)but the implications for food and farming hadn’t registered with me at all
Re: Foodies In The News
We live in one of the disease control areas, and are surrounded by poultry farms - we had to fill in a return for Defra listing all birds we had, even had to include pet ones if we had any.
Quite some time ago now, probably before Christmas - there has been no free range eggs for months but the labelling now has to change as it’s gone on longer than the allowed time period to still class them as free range.
In previous years bird flu outbreaks have been prominent in the media, this time I think other issues have pushed it down the media agenda hence it passing under the radar for folk.

Fascinating, PP. The kitchen/food info makes it foodie! The research and psychology employed by IKEA globally is quite something!

I love prunes, Aldi's are very good, but you have to watch out for the "soft and ready to eat" variety, many have been dried out then slightly rehydrated and they are often vile, the Aldi ones, like good Agen prunes are "mi-cuit" - half-cooked, not quite dried out in the first place

Re: Foodies In The News
I hated prunes and custard at school. It was only when I was older and discovered they could be cooked without added sugar that I found I liked them. I'll pass on the Brownies which I find unbearably sweet and just have the prunes.
Re: Foodies In The News
I make a fruit loaf from time to time, which uses prunes soaked in strong tea. I've modified the ingredients by adding some glycerine, which makes it a bit more like Soreen, but not actually like it. I saw the Greg Wallace programme about Soreen and it's wrapped while still warm, and allowed to cook/mature while in transit.

Why would you peel potatoes before ricing? Just cut in half crossways and place in the ricer cut side down
Or halve again and put cut side down in a mouli-legumes
