I used to make a trifle at Christmas using (amongst other things) tinned mandarins and a quarter of a bottle of Cointreau :wino

I'm afraid trifle is absolutely not something I would ever choose to eat ... I think it's my memories of my mother's sherry trifle that I never really liked, I much preferred munching the little trifle sponge cakes, especially the sugary bit on top :D

Nigel’s Lemon Panettone cake.

This will come in handy. My very last pupil before I retired is the daughter of two Italian surgeons based at St Thomas’s. She always turns up on Christmas Eve with a bottle of Marsala and a panettone. I love that family to bits, and she is an amazing double bass player and all round star. (Is trying for Oxford to read astrophysics).

I can’t stand the stuff but DS makes a student staple with it, chocolate brownies. It’s so easy I refused to believe it would work, but work it does.

I jar of Nutella, two eggs and 60gms of self raising flour. Mix together put in a lined tray and bake. 180 fior 25/30 minutes.

In fact he made a batch on Tuesday night and took into work yesterday.

It’s a very good recipe for children.

Nigella’s Nutella cheesecake is a favourite here.

I loved Nutella when I was a child - good for breakfasts abroad if I didn’t like some of the foods on offer, a Kaiser roll or packaged “toast” with a good smear of Nutella worked

I find it too sweet now

i've always found nutella too sweet and claggy - yeuk. my children missed out.
it's probably the reason i don't like ferrero rocher (the ambassador can keep my share).
i made the mistake of allowing myself to be convinced that a nutella filled pancake was edible, at a nephews wedding. i think it landed up in the bushes.

I grew up with Frys Chocolate Spread and have always found Nutella disappointing. There's probably no comparison but everything I've had containing Nutella would have been nicer with chocolate spread IMO. I think someone here told me that Sainsburys chocolate spread was like Frys. It's not.

That said, I do think BB's quick Brownie recipe looks great to do with children.

When we went to St James Restaurant last week, OH had a Nutella bread and butter pudding. She enjoyed it.

I read that earlier and thought, 'what a wimp!'. Then I remembered root beer, Hershey's chocolate and Jello salads ..... :thumbsdown.

I've had that and rather liked it (and green bean casserole!).

Impressive! I didn’t know what it was when i first had it, it was spooned onto my plate with the turkey etc. a shock to the tastebuds puts it mildly, I wasn’t keen. Green Bean casserole is OK, but not something I’d ever make, I think. On the other hand, I love lots of the American and Canadian dishes. Poutine is sinfully good!
