Are they as naff as they sound?

Well having been to York Minster on Monday I can confirm that the ‘ village’ completely passed me by? What they describe is the usual Christmas market cabins in parliament street, selling the usual overpriced food and quite a bit of tat.

I see for London they pick out Battersea, but a neighbour says Christmas By The River is good, and it's bigger than Battersea

Andi Oliver was doing Alice Through the Looking Glass on Sky Arts last Sunday in a programme called The V&A Presents: Curiouser And Curiouser ... Well worth a catch up if you can

I like the look of Andi’s slightly refined buljol (salt fish salad)

Perhaps I could pop round for Christmas dinner, she lives on my road

I've suggested DS1 & DIL-to-be add here to their "to try" list https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/d ... ant-review

Like the look of the roast pumpkin and carrot - not that different from what we might do anyway but a good idea for tonight - we've got some BNS - we don't ever deep fry so no deep-fried parsnip crisps I'm afraid :D

Just found this article on Twitter about a Londis in Stoke Newington selling Gujarati food
https://www.pelliclemag.com/home/2021/11/24/londis

I wonder if Sue has tried anything from there? It sounds really interesting.

I actually haven’t tried it, though I was quite friendly with grandma Patel when I lived opposite nearly 40 years ago

It’s about 5 minutes walk from here, but in the wrong direction to the way I usually go for shops and transport

If you walk past it for just a couple of minutesthere’s another Indian convenience store that also does home made ready meals, they adapted their offering in lockdown 1 and were a lifeline for many locals

But to get to either of them I have to past Azam’s Kashmiri food stall, so I’m starting there as I’m only just able to eat some Indian spices again post Covid
