I can report a success!

A while back Uschi posted a recipe for a Meissen Cheesecake. I have made it a few times. On one occasion I made one for OH to take to the Wednesday coffee morning at the Church. It went down well and the lady who organises the event asked for the recipe.

She made another, and the cake has proved so popular that, by popular demand, she has to make one every week!

The event starts at 10.30am and OH usually gets there at 11.00am. She says that the cheesecake plate is always empty by then!

Made it this afternoon, not unpleasant but pretty underwhelming.
The sponge is nice and light but that's about it.
Next time I will make a lovely lemon cake and pour a tin of Ambrosia over it!

Oh, that's sad, WW. I thought it looked delicious, a bit like a sponge vanilla slice with a lovely, lemony custard. Oh well .....

I made a batch of biscuits, using a Hairy Bakers recipe.
Nice, but too sweet for us.
Adjustments next time.

I also made a couple of fruit loaves, one for us and one for a pal.
I use Paulthebread's Christmas loaf recipe.

after the good results with the hot cross buns a few days ago i may have to make another batch - none made it into the freezer. i also have a couple of marzipan logs that can have the chocolate removed for a simnel cake type cake (and an excuse to eat the chocolate - can't let it go to waste) so i might join you in that bake (along with a plate pie or something like that to make up the rest of the oven use).

the subs i made were using up the end of some mixed fruit with the sultanas and adding chopped mixed peel instead of the orange zest (a suggested one). i usually add a little more of the spices than given as i think many recipes err on the cautious side - and i did so here.
i also cheated and used the bread machine to do all of the kneading and proving.

i would have posted a photo but my fingers were sticky from glazing (with a bit of diluted apricot jam) and then a couple just went and disappeared...

I have never succeeded in making hot X buns that didn't turn into solid lumps of dough

So today decided to try again, but this time use my bread machine for the first prove ... and instead of buns, made a hot X loaf .... and success Can't wait to sample when it's cooled down a bit.

I do that all the time, whether making a loaf, rolls or a fruit loaf.
Chuck it all in on the dough programme then bake in the oven.

I have made the bread for J's sandwiches this way for more than 10 years.
Works a treat, and it is absolutely not cheating

If you use a washing machine instead of bashing your clothes on the rocks beside the Trent, that's not cheating either.

the hot cross buns are out, and are quite overbaked. I tried the River Cottage recipe from their "Bread" book. Followed the recipe to the letter as it was new to me. Maybe they will be eaten before Good Friday and a batch of the Paul Hollywood ones made. I've done the PH recipe a couple of times before and they were fine.

Mary Berry's Simnel cake is in the oven. It won't be out until 11.30pm.

There is also a batch of teacakes rising. Not sure how they will turn out. I winged it a bit and I think there's too much fruit in them. Probably would have been better as a Chelsea bun shape, but too late now.

Don't know if I'll be doing them for Easter but, if I can't, they shall appear at some point as no cross sticky buns.

I shall also cheat and use the bread machine for kneading and proving.
