Pearl barley is slimy and horrible IMO, lots more for the rest of you then.

The watercress that was delivered today is a bit tired, and I have a load of cavolo nero stalks left over from something else.

I'm tempted to throw together a soup, any ideas?

I've also got carrots, parsnips, onions and celery, but no potatoes or sweet potatoes. Fresh coriander, but no parsley. Frozen spinach but no fresh spinach.

It's pouring with rain so I'm not going to pop out for anything that isn't here already!

I'm thinking a very green soup, with celery, maybe nutmeg as the added interest?

Green soup sounds nice. Have you got any stock to make it more flavoursome? I like white beans (hariciot etc) in soups like that to make them more of a meal. Perhaps not needed if you are having bread or other courses.
I'd also add garlic - fresh or powder and just a few (not overpowering) chilli flakes. Nutmeg works well with spinach. It's probably ok with celery too!

Yes, I've got various beans (and plenty of garlic). :thumbsup
