The idea that a coffee grinder is a waste of time because they found some numpty who couldn't deal with one - really, an essential for a coffee drinker

I either own, have owned or covet all but the honey dipper and 'egg poacher'. I was always led to believe that it was a coddled, not poached egg if not cooked in water.

I have never seen the point of honey dippers, I class it as the sort of thing that you bring back from holiday in the hope that it can be used as Christmas present

Yes Moira, along with a bagful of other bits and bobs made from discoloured olive wood!

I notice that some normal but posh jars of honey have a built-in honey spiral attached to the lid. That makes sense since presumably the jar can be refilled rather than discarded (or discarded if just plastic).

Q: Why do the threads on honey jars gum up even when, with exceptional care, no honey has drizzled onto them? Escapology training? Ta.

we received our very first honey drizzler with jars of honey as a Christmas present, this year.
strangely enough we never found the need for one all the years we kept bees. it hasn't been used yet...

i have quite a few on that list although not the spiralisers - we have a julienne peeler. it works great - as long as you remember to lie the veg on a chopping board and not in your hand. it can do some nasty flesh shredding, too.

Re the honey drizzler. Unless it is left in the jar, a lot of honey must be wasted each time it is used and washed.

I guess you have one of those honey pots with a lid with a hole in it for the drizzler to stay? Instead of one of those bent honey spoon thingies ..... :D

I have only 3 of those, and I use them all, frequently.

I am currently following a topic on Twitter about egg slicers (for salads). Hands up if you still have one. Not sure I ever did as OH doesn't do eggs but I'm pretty sure my granny used one.

When I married, I moved into OH's house and he had one. I had never seen one before that. He made egg sandwiches with sliced egg. I made them with the egg mashed with mayo/salad cream which he had never had before and liked :?. I don't think we ever used the egg slicer again (prefer them just cut in half with a salad).

I too don’t have a an egg slicer because I don’t slice eggs

I did have one briefly, because the blurb said it sliced tomatoes and mushrooms as well. This would have been very useful for me but it didn’t work :(

Ditto re your first sentence, Sue.

I have an excellent tomato knife (which husband keeps using for butter...)

Re a honey drizzler, I don't think I ever drizzle honey... (Either spread or poured for a recipe.)

When I was in my mid teens, a schoolfriend brought me back an olive wood backscratcher from a holiday abroad, and left it on my desk. I saw it and not having encountered the concept, let alone the object, (it was one with a hand at one end) or where it had come from, said, really rather rudely, "What the hell is this?" She was offended. I still feel guilty. And it turned out to be very useful. Funny to think I had not been abroad myself at this point.

I use my egg slicer all the time.
I adore hard boiled eggy; egg mayonnaise is one of my favourite starters.

If I boil eggs, I do 8 - 10, as I know I'll eat the lot over a few days. I don't put salt or pepper on them, I prefer boiled eggs neat.

I should really get an avocado slicer too for the same reason.

which husband keeps using for butter...

At least he does use your kitchen scissors for snipping flowers and deadheading.
I keep buying him garden scissors but gawd knows where the end up.

Do you slice eggs thinly for egg mayonnaise, Gill? I have only ever seen it made with halved eggs.

Yes, I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs, I just don't slice them

I have plenty of knives that will slice tomatoes and mushrooms, it's just that I am a bit slow at doing it especially if I want even slices for sandwiches etc

EM, halved for egg mayonnaise. I'll make my own mayo for it too.

If I'm mashing eggs, I'll use the slicer twice (to get egg cubes) for a good start before using the fork.
I did try using the slicer to do mushrooms, but I was going to knacker it pretty quickly.

.
I have an egg slicer that mostly lives in a drawer. Actually works really well - it's one of those stretched stainless steel wire over a plastic holder ones. I slice and chop eggs a fair - usually using a knife on the egg in a cupped hand - but usually forget to use the slicer as it's out of sight.

An avo slicer would be really handy.

The slicer I do use a lot is an apple corer and slicer into 12 sections.
