Savoury cracker recipes
Following a conversation jeral and I had about butter free savoury crackers a few weeks ago, I have just found a recipe for some vegan ones as follows:
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/thy ... -crackers/
They sound so good I might have a go at making them myself!

Re: Savoury cracker recipes
Yes those look good
Though I am slightly puzzled by the ingredient “white wholewheat flour” - surely it is either white or whole meal?
I’m going to have to try making crackers / biscuits for cheese as I can’t really find any I like routinely. Most have far too much flavouring, personally I don’t want a mouthful of assorted seeds and dried herbs along with expensive cheese!

Ooh! Thanks - instantly bookmarked and very welcomed. I cheekily admonished the vegan's Rothschild behaviour of spending £lots on crisps but some tiny crackers I bought tasted more of MSG to me than anything else.
I wasn't sure about fresh thyme either (stalky leaves) but a comment says they used dried and mixed it into the flour. I grind dried thyme to almost a powder if intended to be eaten, so I'd go with that for first attempt.
Dunno about white wholewheat flour either but, aesthetically, brown would be fine so I'd ignore that given it's only 1/6th of flour total anyway.
Jolly good

I was going to question white whole wheat flour too !
I would go with whole meal or whole wheat flour surely .. I have a wide variety of eco flours from Italy and Spain and France so, when I get home I shall give make some crackers and shoot some photographs too ..
My Dear is taking care of my Genovese Basil as we had alot of rain storms up in northeastern Cataluna and Barcelona .. So he took them into the diningroom ..
Have a nice weekend ..

Re: Savoury cracker recipes
You can get white whole wheat, I'd have thought in supermarkets.
I've got some in the cupboard from Stanway mill.
I feel for the millers that can do nothing with the bran etc. When you visit mills, they are giving it away. Which I sprinkle into breakfasts sometimes.
I don't even think they are allowed to use it in horse feed anymore.
My tweak wouldn't be the herb.
But I'd use sunflower oil. As they do look a bit oily. My only criticism, as that seems like an excellent find there Stricters.
I've bookmarked it for a recipe if we sit down with cheese one day.

Re: Savoury cracker recipes
Morning folks,
The recipe is from what appears to be an American food magazine, which will explain the different terminology. I wasn't sure what white wholewheat flour was either to be honest! When I make it I will probably blitz a small amount of oats to a fine powder and hope that will do. As Stokey Sue said, the oil used might be a bit strong so I am likely to do a mix of that and sunflower.
Also, if anyone else has any savoury cracker recipes, please feel free to post them on here

Strictly Salsa,
I shall be in Cádiz until the 17th ..
However, I have an Italian family savoury cracker récipe which we have used over the years, and they are amazingly wonderful .. (paternal great grandmother & grandfather were from Italy). They immigrated to Barcelona ..
Shall definitely post the récipe here when I get home .. Writing this in the To Do´s notebook for you.
Have a nice day ..

Re: Savoury cracker recipes
I’ve done a bit of googling about white whole wheat flour
It seems that there are two main strains of wheat - red and white
In the USA red is more common so if white wheat is required it is specified
In the UK nearly all the wholemeal flour is made from white wheat so it isn’t specifically labelled - same as flour is no longer generally labelled in bleached as bleaching has been illegal for years
The point is white wheat not white flour

Thank you for clarifying that Stokey Sue.

I made some cornmeal ones but lost the recipe so did a hunt around and found the link below. It has five recipes that look promising, although I foresee an immediate twitchy tweaky feeling...
The good thing is that crackers don't require much arm-withering kneading.

Another two here.
These use chickpea:
Look for or do a Ctrl-F to find "Falafel Chips" about 3/5ths down the page.

Or these made with "home-made multi-grain flour":
