Pressure Cooker
Hi all, long time no see
Have finally got round to digging out my 12-1 pressure cooker gizmo my parents got me for Xmas. It is borderline witch craft. Meat cooks so quickly
Does anybody have any recipes that would be good for my pressure cooker? So far I have done beef and Stilton for a pie and a Malaysian style pork curry.

Re: Pressure Cooker
I love my pressure cooker.
Here is an article
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide ... use-them-0
I use mine for
stock chicken from roast chicken carcus, in 10 min
Dried bean in approx. 30% of the time
steamed puddings both sweet and savoury
potatoes in 10 mins
I have a good recipe book from the "good food" series
I hope this helps

Re: Pressure Cooker
DEB - Cheers I am making Beef Bourguignon tonight which is making me dribble at the thought.
Re: Pressure Cooker
I'm told pressure cookers become second nature - and indispensable - after a few goes.
There are lots of recipes here: https://fastcooking.ca/pressure_cookers ... _index.php
Also one here for different types of rice:

Re: Pressure Cooker
Great for soups ... especially ones using pulses. Also great for steamed puddings ... but it's hardly the weather for them ...
Re: Pressure Cooker
I am now thinking of getting another one, after many years without, but where to put it is the problem!!

Good Evening Whitefield,
Though I have never used a Pressure Cooker, here are some suggestions from the gals at my office:
Lentils
Black Beans
Pasta Fagioli
Vegetarian Chili
A Rancher´s Chili
Here is an interesting & Healthy Blog too that is very versatile as I am not Vegetarian: Blog.fatfreevegan.com
Have a lovely evening ..

Re: Pressure Cooker
Have they moved on since my day (80's) where it shrunk the meat.
So you had to use so much more. Veg was OK if a bit soft for my liking.
I've got the old base to mine, but not the lid, and use it for pasta boiling.
I'd be jolly interested to know if they've come on a bit, as I'd like to make beans and Indian style foods with one.
That's where they come into their own I believe.
Have you got a specific link to the one you have Foodie?

Re: Pressure Cooker
The new electric pressure cookers are a joy to use. No more steam-filled kitchens, loud hissing pans wobbling on the hob and a need to keep an eye on the gas to make sure they're still up to pressure but not going mad. Just fill them, put the lid on and press a button. There's a little wisp of steam then it all goes still, all quiet. The only thing you see is the display counting down.
What's more they generally double as slow cookers, so if you use both you could replace two things with one, although like you I kept the old PC as a usefully big saucepan. I've got an Instant Pot which I love and would unhesitatingly recommend. It sits in the cupboard where the slow cooker was. It gets used every week, often several times - it can also double as a usefully big saucepan.

Thanks Badgers.
That's such a good point about the slow cooker. I never use mine.

I'll have to sell something on Ebay to fund the purchase.

Re: Pressure Cooker
I´d imagine a Beef Rendang would work fine in a pressure cooker. You might want to try an Indian mutton with cardamom seeds, too.
We cook black beans in ours; as well as whole tins of condensed milk - to make Dulce de Leche.
We also use the pressure cooker for beef skirt, mixed with onion, garlic, coriander leaf, peppers, etc. to prepare "Pabellón Criollo" - which is basically pulled skirt of beef, spiced up with a "sofrito" and served with black beans, plantains and rice.

Re: Pressure Cooker
Gill - Yep thats the one I am slightly obsessed. My Beef Burgandy last night was amazing in 27 minutes. I am going to use the "rice" setting tonight, to make a jambalaya, fingers crossed as I love an easy jambalaya.

KK & Member 461 - Thanks for the recommendations. I love a rendang. and I love lentil and bean dishes.
I have read that beans and pulses can "froth" up in a PC causing some issues?

Re: Pressure Cooker
Whitefield,
Sorry, however, I did mention that I have never used a pressure cooker and do not own one, however, I had asked my secretary and receptionist and they provided the suggestions ..
So, I cannot answer your enquiry as I do not know .. I doubt it however, as my staff are experienced home gourmets and use a Pressure Cooker frequently, they told me ..
I am too traditionally Mediterranean for lots of machines ! Still use a mortar & pestle and only a stand up Bosch Mixer !
Have a lovely day ..
