Quite rare. An interview with Nigella. I've always said it's her writing that does it for me.

It makes you wonder ....
Re: Foodies In The News
ive just had a look at the items for sale in the river cafe shop - ten pounds for a half kilo of chickpea flour - i think not!
five pounds for a half kilo pack of dried spaghetti - would i notice the difference from a 25p pack of lidl's once it was covered in a sauce?
and as for the 'harry's bar sauce' you could pay a fiver for 120ml (4 fluid oz - mainly mayonnaise) or you could make it yourself from the, possibly, original recipe.

Re: Foodies In The News
The imported foods are hard to compare - but 200g of Devon Crab meat in a jar for £24? I can get a whole dressed crab, Cromer or Devon locally for less than £10
Even the Fish Society, which I tend to find expensive, sells a dressed Cornish crab for £10.80

I think that rather sums up my dislike of much of the M&S offer, could they not just get the flippin’ pie right?

Re: Foodies In The News
Clever. They'll sell loads. Will M&S ever exhaust trying to diversify their damned pig though? The similar sweets that Waitrose did were so much nicer.
Re: Foodies In The News
4 for £2 is a bit steep! Doesn't that rival Waitrose's price for Heston mince pies?

I can’t believe that Nigellas 60. I’ve always liked her . I do think at one point she became a bit of a parody of herself but think she’s reined it in .. I’ve got most of her books and think she’s very reliable and a good all round cook .
There’s so many specialised regional or baking or healthy eating books around , it’s nice to have someone that’s just a general good home cook who covers a variety of dishes

Re: Foodies In The News
I agree, we had her Lime & Chocolate Cheesecake at the weekend. The cake is cooked in a water bath, she says to use water from a kettle that has just boiled, knowing that you do not want to boil a kettle at that moment. Also from comments that she had made, all her recipes are properly tested, unlike some celebrity chefs who just seem to halve or quarter the amounts used in professional kitchens.Amyw wrote:think she’s very reliable and a good all round cook .

Re: Foodies In The News
I was thinking along the same lines the other day about Nigella and, in a lesser way Mary Berry. They both give new twists to very traditional as well as modern ingredients but based on the traditional cuisines of elsewhere. I feel sure that Nigella has introduced people to a lot of new ingredients and methodology. This is totally different to people like Nadiya who muck about with British traditional dishes and annoy purists.

I saw that sand thought of Josceline Dimbleby’s First Impressions - a book of first courses :lol
Some very odd choices - I think a beginner would do better with Nikki Segnit’s Lateral Cooking which I don’t have as the many diagrams aren’t a lot of use to me, but there is a Kindle edition which I might get some time
Re: Foodies In The News
I see Mary Berry has been honoured so is now Dame Mary. I'm not sure why - I'd have thought people like Rosemary Schrager or Angela Hartnett or Jamie Oliver who've run schools to "bring on" and train young people would be thought more deserving, whilst Mary is essentially a home cook who writes a lot of books (lucratively) and appears on TV (lucratively) - unless there's a whole load of good works she does that I'm not aware of?
