That's a shame, stay safe
I enjoyed the Christmas Bake Off with the cast of It's a Sin, Shaun Dooley clearly a late entry for the "nicest man in showbiz" award, but found the New Year past winners one a bit plodding
Enjoyed Andi, especially in Glasgow

*Possible Spoiler Alert!* Junior Bakeoff.
I've really got into this but a few things are annoying me.
1) How can it be fair to put 15 year olds with 10 and unders? At 15 you are almost adult, have learned a lot of science and should be able to produce pretty good results and follow instructions with far more ease.
2) Should pastry and bread be made using food processors and mixers? Do they know how to make them without?
3) Baked Alaska with a blowtorch? Surely the skill is to manage the oven?
Some great baking and enthusiasm though.

I don't watch it, as I cannot bear "smart" kids on tv, but re using processors and stand mixers, I think ther eare 2 things
1 the hand whisk was Mrs Beeton's weapon of choice, but these are 21st century kids, and personally I don't see a need to ignore 21st century technology
2 with bread in particular, doesn't using a machine remove some of the disparity between 10 years old and 15 yo? A 15 yo will be far more able to knead dough or cream butter by hand than a 10 yo simply because of size and strength rather than skill

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
The length of each round is shorter than that of GBBO. This reflects the concentration issues of some of the younger contestants. Time-wise I would imagine gadgets need to be used.
Sue, there has only been one (very) irritating child in this batch. He's still there, I suspect he's ADHD, but like the previous group they are mostly delightful.

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
I understand the machinery for speed and convenience but still think that maybe one challenge should be without just to show that they know how.
I would certainly expect a 15 year old in my household to have more advanced cookery skills than a 10 year old.
The 'irritating' one is quite sweet at the same time. He seems quite accomplished in a variety of subjects but with more self doubt than you first think. I had to laugh at the judges' reaction to his pie ... how on earth did he nail it?!

*Spoiler alert!* Junior Bakeoff again.
Been really impressed with recipes over the past couple of days. Cornflake cake tartlet cases are new to me as are waffles containing ricotta. Both recipes looked rather good I thought and I'm delighted to have found them online https://thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/recipes/all/
I thought it was obvious who might be in the running for overall winner but I'm not so sure now. It will be interesting.

I am glad that it is not just me who bothered about the age of some of the bakers.

We watched the final of JBO, loved the charming Lola.
They were asking for candidates for the next series, the age group is now 9 years to 13 years old, much fairer

The whole thing has been a delight and they produced some stunning stuff as it went on.
We noticed that they had asked for 9-13 year olds too. I suppose some could reach 14 before the show was aired but it seems a bit fairer.

Interesting. I didn’t read it like that at all. I took it that they had enough older candidates but were short on younger ones.

Did I hear GBM starts tomorrow?
I will probably just watch the Friday episode, it's a bit too long winded for me.

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
I gave up on the GBM sometime ago, all style over substance/ flavour, too cheffy, too much "mucked about food"
