The Diet Myth strikes me as just another example of building a myth to knock it down.

I’ve lost three stone in under a year , working off of a calorie deficit . However I’ve used an online TDEE calculator to work out my allowance which takes into account age , activity level , current weight and so on

Three stones? Many congratulations, that can’t have been easy.

I just read this, and found it actually refreshingly un-BS (bullshit) - which is what it set out to be :thumbsup

On the other hand, we probably don't need to be reminded that most things are OK in moderation

I didn’t read it all, though it looks decent, and Rebecca Seal is usually reliable, didn’t feel the need to read a debunking of a myth I never bought into.

I did spot one exam howler all simple sugars contain glucose
Err, no. Glucose is an example of a simple sugar, and the one found in the bloodstream.
It’s like saying all Pasta contains fusilli

Seems a mixture of good advice and not really thought through details

A minor quibble is, as we discussed, my understanding is that most of the evidence is that sarcopenia (muscle wasting) is more related to movement, though obviously you need enough protein to support muscle maintenance - protein, essential fatty acids, and also minerals including

But it’s simply thoughtless to suggest people over 70 should not eat alone

And a portion of cheese is the size of a matchbox

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek imagining shared meals and interesting plates at last when over 70. As you say, it is thoughtless to suggest that many can achieve this. I buy those giant boxes of matches, I don't think I can pretend it's the amount of cheese they mean.

Yes, I realised you were tongue in cheek, I was giving my own response to the article itself

I had the same thought about the matches

Here's an article, intended to be readable by a non-scientist, about not getting overexcited about superfoods

It's written by Gunther Kuhnle who I follow on Twitter, very much a serious researcher, but here being as non-technical as possible, with help from his co-authors
